My name is Mary Malone. I am a Masters Level, dual certified educational professional in the areas of elementary and special education. I have a Masters and Bachelors Degree from William Woods University. I enjoy encouraging students of all ages to love reading and writing. Some of my 30 years of educational experience includes teaching special education for the St. James School district, tutoring online for Varsity tutors in the area of reading and writing, mentoring middle and high school students in the area of creative writing for my daughters homeschool cooperative and being a homeschool mom for 13 years!
I enjoy writing in my writer’s notebook, reading cozy mysteries and collecting books, making quilts and spending time with my family on our farm. I have been blessed to be married to the love of my life for 21 years, to have an adult son and a teenage daughter that encourage and challenge me to grow and to live in the Phelps County area for 21 years.
I am so excited for the opportunity to help students at Uniquely Wired using Barton Reading and IEW writing. All students deserve an opportunity to build their confidence and to be successful!

Great advice from MODE! AI can be helpful in advocacy, but it has its limitations. If you’re unsure, contact a trained advocate. We have two on staff at Uniquely Wired! 🤩
Strong educational advocates can be hard to find or the cost can be prohibitive. Many parents have turned to AI. AI can be a great tool, but beware of the issues this can cause! Don't discredit yourself amongst the IEP team by over-relying on AI to advocate for your child.
👉 AI Hallucination: a phenomenon where an artificial intelligence—most commonly a Large Language Model (LLM) like ChatGPT or Gemini—generates factually incorrect, fabricated, or entirely unsupported information. The AI presents these plausible-sounding fabrications with absolute confidence, making them difficult to spot without independent verification.
👉 AI Has No Understanding of Truth: AI does not "know" facts the way humans do. It operates as an advanced predictive tool that strings together words based on mathematical patterns.
👉 AI Can Offer Biased or Flawed Data: AI models are trained on vast datasets from the internet, meaning they can reproduce the same biases, falsehoods, and outdated information found in their training data.
👉 AI Allows For Confirmation Bias: If you include a false premise in your prompt, the AI may attempt to justify it rather than correcting you.
👉 AI Polishes Language: If you feed your words into AI before communicating with your team and ask it to make you sound more professional, be sure that it still sounds like you and that it didn't just add fancy words with little substance. IEP teams are made of HUMANS. Make sure you still communicate like one.

She may tease me for being old and make me jealous of her Freddy’s ice cream, but she’s one smart cookie! I’ll take all the jokes if I get to keep seeing her beautiful smile and confidence.
Abbie, we are so proud of all you’ve learned this year and we are so happy to have you at Uniquely Wired! 🩷
There is no doubt that we love our students at UWC.
