*******ATTENTION CHEROKEE, VOLUNTEER, and MORRISTOWN EAST HIGH junior English students *******
The Washington Youth Tour Writing Contest is conducted each year as part of a statewide program to help educate young people about basic cooperative values and the history of rural electrification. The Youth Tour is sponsored by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, Tennessee Electric Cooperative Association, Holston Electric Cooperative and 22 other electric cooperatives across Tennessee. The theme for this yearโs competition is โCo-Ops Connect".
Students are asked to write short stories describing how local electric cooperatives ensure future success in their service areas by taking active roles in improving everyday lives across their communities.
Nine contest winners will join hundreds of other students from across the country as participants in the Washington Youth Tour in June 2024.
WINNERS HAVE THE OPPURTUNITY TO:
WASHINGTON, D.C. TRIP
Winners will explore our nationโs capital during a six-day, all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C.
WRITING SCHOLARSHIPS
The top three stories in the state win a $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000 scholarship
YOUTH AMBASSADOR SCHOLARSHIP
Delegates who volunteer with their co-op in the year following the trip are entered to win a $10,000 scholarship
PARTNER SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS
Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tenn., and Union University in Jackson, Tenn., have partnered with youth tour to provide millions of dollars in scholarships to youth tour delegates
INDUSTRY SCHOLARSHIPS
Other scholarships including the Glenn English National Cooperative Leadership Foundation Scholarship and the Engineers of the Future Scholarship are available through the Glenn English National Cooperative Leadership Foundation.
