Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when news of freedom reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation declared them free. This holiday marks a pivotal moment in our nation's history and serves as a reminder that justice often requires persistence, courage, and collective action.

But it also reminds us that progress does not end with a proclamation, a law, or a single victory. Even after the news of emancipation reached Texas, the work of securing freedom, opportunity, and equal treatment continued. Throughout history, meaningful change has depended on people who were willing to organize, advocate, and ensure that promises became realities. That lesson remains as relevant today as ever.

Come by the Bentonville Library to sign both petitions this week between 11 am - 1pm. Kelly Stockman will be there today and tomorrow, June 2nd and 3rd. Others will be there on Thursday and Friday.

👉 Helpful reminder: You can sign in counties other than the one you reside in. Just let the volunteer canvasser know, so they can make sure you sign on a petition that matches your home county.

🔎 The For AR Kids coalition is fighting for stronger accountability and guardrails for how our public tax dollars are spent, because it makes fiscal sense. Taking lessons from the unchecked EFA/voucher spending crisis in Arizona, Arkansans have an opportunity to make a real difference for the trajectory of education in our state, by advocating for budget reforms that will benefit the overwhelming majority of our families.

💯 With more than 90% (more than 465,000) of all Arkansas students attending their local, public schools, we know that investing in more thoughtful and truly innovative learning boosts is crucial for the success of our communities, as well as the overall future of our state.

This is why I agreed to lead the Rogers Education Association. To take a stand for education, to advocate for student and teacher success. I believe in public schools! I am a product of public schools and a proud public school teacher!

This Arkansas "Education Freedom Account" is a voucher program detrimental not only to our public schools, but also to the fiscal health of our state.
