Our 4th grade Gifted Learners put their geography skills and creativity to work as they designed an entirely new 8th continent! Students researched and developed unique animals, climates, and landforms for their imaginary continents, then brought their ideas to life through engaging presentations.

To wrap up their project, students transformed their designs into 3D salt dough models of their continents! From research and problem-solving to creativity and hands-on learning, this project gave our gifted learners the opportunity to think like geographers, scientists, and designers. 🌋🐾🌿

Congratulations to Westside Elementary School and Birch Kirksey Middle School!

Both schools have earned 2026 Beating the Odds honors from the Office for Education Policy at the University of Arkansas for demonstrating high student growth on the ATLAS.

Beating the Odds awards recognize high-growth schools where at least 66% of students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. OEP’s growth measures look at how much students improved compared with students who had similar prior achievement.

Westside earned four awards for ELA and science growth, while Kirksey earned three awards for overall and ELA growth. The schools received honors at both the statewide and Northwest Region levels.

Congratulations to the students and staff at Westside and Kirksey on this well-deserved recognition!
