Every Wednesday afternoon we have the pleasure of spending one hour on Barton College's campus with the Foundation YMCA of Wilson Y-GIG middle school students! Through this partnership, students get a deep dive into what it means to be a college student and learn about career opportunities in health care!

NC AHEC’s nurse refresher course is online and self-paced so that you can balance work, life, and your career. The NC AHEC RN Refresher Program consists of a 24-module, self-paced, medical-surgical nursing review and a 160-hour clinical practicum.

Dr. Jason Kimbrell is entering his fourth month as the CEO for Wilson Medical Center (WMC). Area L AHEC attended a listening session that Dr. Kimbrell hosted on September 23rd!

These sessions are designed to give leadership at WMC the opportunity to listen to community partners, better understand the needs of the organizations working alongside WMC, and help determine the community needs from the healthcare system to advance shared goals around physical health and emotional health. Additional sessions are scheduled for: Farmington Heights Church (September 29), Wilson County Senior Center (October 13), the Foundation YMCA (October 13th) and the Wilson County Public Library (October 22).

Area L AHEC, along with Rural Opportunity Institute, and Edgecombe Community College, are partnering with Education Design Lab (EDL) to develop pathways to support strong, sustainable healthcare pipelines as part of the Strengthening the Rural Workforce through Collaborative Design grant.

We were thrilled to be invited to represent the collaborative at the Rural Community College Alliance Annual Conference in Senatobia, Mississippi alongside EDL and BridgeValley Community and Technical College (West Virginia), to share how the collaborative framework is encouraging a pathway design that responds to regional labor market needs, expands opportunities for learners, and strengthens local communities!
