Three Area L AHEC Scholars recently traveled to Washington, D.C., to participate in the National AHEC Organization Leadership Forum alongside more than 170 AHEC Scholars and leaders from across the country!
During the two-day forum, our Scholars engaged in educational sessions designed to strengthen leadership skills, expand their understanding of the AHEC mission, and explore topics related to health policy, leadership management, and effective storytelling. They also learned from representatives of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and participated in discussions focused on rural health and the healthcare workforce.
A highlight of the experience was visiting Capitol Hill, where the Scholars met with congressional staff to share their personal experiences as AHEC Scholars and discuss the impact the program has had on their educational and professional journeys. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to learn about the legislative process, practice professional communication, and gain firsthand insight into how individuals can engage with policymakers.
Experiences like these help prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals to become informed, collaborative leaders who are committed to serving their communities.
