See below the 2021 RMHS Gryphons Varsity Baseball Schedule. The Gryphons got off to a bit of rocky start vs. Nash Central last night, losing by a 11-16 score. The Gryphons host Southwest Edgecombe Wednesday (4/28) at 5:00 p.m. at Gryphon Stadium. Hope to see you there!!!

Terrell Hudgins received the Tom Suiter Extra Effort Award as a regular renaissance man on the Rocky Mount fields of play, before specializing and highly excelling at one at Elon. Nowadays, he's known as "Coach T."

Latest news on NCHSAA's decision regarding scheduling for the upcoming high school football season and changes to other sports for the 2020-21 academic year.

The N.C. High School Athletic Association will not play high school football this fall and all other sports will see changes to their schedules after a vote by the NCHSAA Board of Directors on Tuesday evening.

CHAPEL HILL, NC - Due to the threat from COVID-19, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) has made the decision to postpone the 2020 Men’s and Women’s Basketball State Championships indefinitely.

“As much as we would like this opportunity for our student-athletes, coaches, and their communities, we know that ultimately any decision we make must err on the side of caution,” said Commissioner Que Tucker.

The Board of Directors also moved to suspend all interscholastic athletics beginning at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2020, through Monday, April 6th, 2020. The NCHSAA Board of Directors will assess this situation regularly over the next few weeks. This includes all workouts, skill development, practices, and contests.

ROCKY MOUNT – Joseph Daniel “Danny” Talbott, III, age 75, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2020. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on November 1, 1944, he was the son of Rev. Joe Talbott, Jr. and Lena Mae Woodcock Talbott. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his brother, J...

Danny Talbott, probably the greatest all-around athlete in the history of Rocky Mount High School, passed away this morning after a nine-year battle with cancer. He was 75 years old. Mr. Talbott was the star player on the three Rocky Mount Blackbirds teams (predecessors to the Gryphons) that famously won the state title in football, basketball, and baseball during the 1962-63 school year.

Mr. Talbott went on to be a star football and baseball player at UNC-Chapel Hill and, after graduating from UNC, played professional baseball in the Baltimore Orioles organization and played professional football for the Washington Redskins under Coach Vince Lombardi.

Mr. Talbott won many accolades during his life including induction in the NC Sports Hall of Fame in 2003 and the Twin County Hall of Fame in 2004. Additionally, in 2018 the Danny Talbott Cancer Center at Nash UNC Health Care was named in his honor. Please keep Mr. Talbott’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this time.
