It’s Friday, but our teachers are already locked in for next week! 🔒📚💚💙

While our scholars are wrapping up their week, our staff is behind the scenes making sure Monday starts with purpose and preparation.

✅ Lessons are complete
✅ Anchor charts are up
✅ “I Can” statements are identified
✅ Essential questions are ready
✅ Materials are being prepared
✅ Teacher Leads are leading and supporting their teams
✅ Our K–2 team is collaborating, helping one another, and preparing together

This is what teamwork on the Road to Excellence looks like. Teacher Leads stepping in to lead, teachers learning from one another, and teams working together to make sure every classroom is ready for scholars.

Excellence doesn’t just happen when scholars walk through the door—it starts with the intentional work, collaboration, and preparation happening behind the scenes.

So proud of our Southside teachers for continuing to raise the bar, support one another, and lock in for our scholars! 💪🏾📚

Each week, our scholars learn a new Bible verse that connects with our schoolwide theme. And it’s only Wednesday, but Ne’Ari has already committed God’s Word to memory! 🧠❤️

At Southside Academy, Scripture memory is about more than memorizing words—we want our scholars to know God’s Word, hide it in their hearts, and carry it with them wherever they go.

✏️📚 Young Writers at Work! ✨

Mrs. O’Neal’s 5th-grade scholars are putting their writing skills into action! 💚💙

Today, scholars completed a practice writing prompt about their summer ☀️📝, giving them an opportunity to share their experiences while demonstrating what they already know as writers.

This writing sample will also help guide instruction as Mrs. O’Neal identifies areas for continued growth, including punctuation, complete sentences and thoughts, correct parts of speech, organization, and adding meaningful details to strengthen their writing. 📖

We’re excited to watch our 5th-grade writers strengthen their skills, find their voices, and grow in confidence throughout the year!

🍎📚 First Grade Learning in Action! ✨

Ms. Courtney’s first-grade scholars are off to a strong start! 💚💙

As we begin the school year, our scholars are learning that excellence starts with the little things—classroom routines, procedures, smooth transitions, following directions, and making positive choices. They’re also learning how ClassDojo points help celebrate those great choices and encourage growth along the way! 🌟

📚 Today, they jumped into their first ELA lesson!

Scholars reviewed the vowels A, E, I, O, and U and practiced identifying their sounds. Building a strong foundation in letter sounds and vowels is an important step toward becoming confident, independent, and fluent readers. 📖

And our first graders were WORKING! 👏🏽 Through lesson slides, call-and-response, textbook practice, independent thinking, and workbook activities, scholars had multiple opportunities to show what they learned and apply it independently.

We love seeing our classrooms come alive with engaged scholars, intentional instruction, and lots of learning! 🥰

🌎 Geography in Action! 🗺️

Our 4th-grade scholars in Mr. Hedgepeth’s class are putting geography into action! Today, scholars explored both the World Map and the United States Map, practicing how to identify locations, understand where places are positioned, and strengthen their map-reading skills. 🌍🇺🇸

And the journey continues! 🛤️📚 Tomorrow, our scholars will travel back in time as they begin learning about the 13 Original Colonies!

🎥 Want to know what Day 1 was like at Southside Academy? 💚💙We officially began our Road to Excellence, and Day 1 was all about setting the tone!
