💙💚 Growing together so our scholars can grow!

This week, our Southside Academy teachers and staff completed HMH Personalized Pathway training, bringing us one step closer to full implementation! 📚✨

We’re preparing to connect our scholars’ NWEA MAP results with targeted learning opportunities that address individual needs, strengthen foundational skills, and support continued growth in reading and math.

Purposeful planning. Personalized support. A pathway forward for every scholar. 🌟

💙💚 Sweet success deserves a sweet treat! 🥤🎉

Shout-out to our Southside scholars who scored at the 61st percentile or higher in math and/or reading on their Beginning-of-Year (BOY) NWEA MAP assessments! 📚➕🌟

What does that mean? A score at the 61st percentile means a scholar performed as well as or better than approximately 61% of students in the same grade nationally who tested during the same season. This places them above the national midpoint! 👏🏾

Our scholars are celebrating with a FREE slushy from Speedway! We’re proud of their hard work and look forward to continued growth throughout the school year.

Keep working diligently and letting your light shine! 🙌🏾

She lives by BAMN: By Any Means Necessary, getting it done with grace and grit! In her first year, she’s already making her mark in 2nd grade, pouring into our scholars and bringing determination and heart to the classroom. 📚✨

💙💚 Building Number Sense in 1st Grade! 🔢✨

Ms. Courtney is helping our first-grade scholars explore tens and ones using the number 37!

Our scholars are learning that 3 tens = 30 and 7 ones = 7. Put them together, and 30 + 7 = 37! 👏🏾

Understanding the value of each digit builds a strong foundation for comparing numbers, adding, and subtracting. We love seeing our scholars grow in math! 📚🌟

💙💚 Using Data to Help Every Scholar Grow! 📚🌱

At Southside Academy, small-group instruction starts with understanding what each scholar needs. Our Beginning-of-Year NWEA MAP assessments in reading and math, along with classroom work, teacher observations, and ongoing skill checks, help teachers identify skills to strengthen and areas where scholars are ready for a greater challenge.

From October 5–November 13, scholars are participating in a six-week cycle of targeted instruction. Teachers are using small groups, individualized practice through NWEA Personalized Pathways, and additional tutor support for identified scholars to address specific learning needs.

We’re tracking practice daily and checking progress regularly so teachers can adjust instruction and groups as scholars grow. After this cycle, we’ll review progress to determine who needs continued support, new skill goals, or additional enrichment. Future MAP assessments will help us measure growth from our fall starting point.

Our goal is steady, measurable growth in reading and math, stronger foundational skills, and greater readiness for grade-level work by spring 2027. For scholars already meeting or exceeding expectations, our goal is continued growth through meaningful challenges.
