Tar River Academy is a public alternative school in the Nash County Public Schools' District. Mission: We strive to meet the unique needs of our students through innovative evidence based practices addressing academic, social/emotional and career skills to help them overcome barriers and get back on track to reach their post-secondary goals. Vision: Every student can learn and succeed despite their current circumstances.

On May 21st, TRA held the Senior Banquet to honor graduates with awards, dinner and words of encouragement as they prepare for graduation. A big thanks goes out to Mrs. Eatmon and the Events Committee for organizing this wonderful banquet and to Officer Woods for the food donations!

Mrs. Mirta Beasley was recognized with The Phoenix Award at TRA's Senior Banquet on Thursday May 21, 2025 for her commitment to education. For the past eight years, she has been an important part of our Phoenix Family, serving our English Language Learners with dedication and compassion. She has been a tremendous support to both students and their families, going far beyond classroom instruction by advocating for them and helping them navigate American systems and opportunities. From assisting with jobs and college applications to supporting families through the citizenship process, Mrs. Beasley has made a lasting impact on countless lives.

She has collaborated effectively with both school and district staff to ensure students receive the support they need and has become a valued and respected member of our Phoenix Family. After 38 years in education — 10 years in Argentina and 28 years in America — Mrs. Beasley is retiring this year.

Mrs. Beasley, thank you for your years of service, dedication, and care. You will be greatly missed!
