🚨 The FAFSA is OPEN! But should you rush to fill it out? 🤔

A parent asked me this exact question last night at our college planning workshop in Wallingford, CT.

My answer might surprise you!

At Advanced College Planning, we encourage families to get prepared early, but we don’t necessarily recommend being first in line when a new application launches.

💡 There’s no trophy for submitting your FAFSA first!

A few things Connecticut parents should know:

✅ Be prepared, but give potential early technical glitches time to get resolved.

✅ Know your colleges’ FAFSA and CSS Profile deadlines.

✅ Remember, submitting financial aid forms is only ONE part of making college affordable.

🚨 Think filling out the FAFSA means you’ve handled financial aid? Think again.

The FAFSA is only the FIRST of potentially three financial aid forms — and the colleges on your student’s list determine which ones you’ll face.

Depending on where your student applies, your family may also need to complete the CSS Profile and a college’s own institutional forms.

And here’s why that matters:

Two colleges can look at the exact same family and come up with VERY different answers about what you should pay.

That’s why building the right college list isn’t just about admissions.
