Makiwara training is a key component of traditional Karate arts, and Isshinryu is no exception. When used properly, the makiwara is of tremendous benefit in nearly every aspect of striking; from proper forming of the fist to correct use of the legs, and most places in between.
The article below illustrates several options for crafting your own makiwara.

Train carefully and with proper intent when using a makiwara; and get competent instruction in its use if the concept is new to you. Improper training can cause lasting injury.

Kata (forms) are a foundational part of Isshinryu, but often they are too narrowly defined, and thus misunderstood. This video is an excellent example of how to expand one's understanding of the lessons Kata teach.

Due to space considerations for other events which occur at the Center, classes may sometimes be moved from one room to another. Currently our normal room is the "Game Room" which is immediately to the right of the southern entrance (the side closest to City Hall). From time to time we may be moved to the room near the service desk closer to the north entrance. If you stop by and don't see us, you can either contact us here or ask at the service desk at the Center.
Class times remain the same; Monday and Wednesday 6:00PM to 7:00PM.
As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions.

Training times for Sekai Toshi Gijutsu Dojo of Texas is changing starting August 2016. Training will be held on Monday and Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The location has not changed; training will be held at The Center in Rockwall, 108 E. Washington St. Rockwall Texas.
Also, a recent change to the Rockwall Parks and Recreation web page at www.playrockwall.com saw the class sign up removed from the site. This has been corrected, and class information and sign up can once again be found there under the adult programs as well as the fitness and wellness programs.
As always, you can contact us here or contact the City of Rockwall Parks and Recreation with any inquiries you may have.
