Well, that was fun! Middle School Girls’ Art Nights culminated with the girls combining the two skills they learned: lettering and painting flowers. Each girl chose a quote for their canvas. Half chose a Bible verse, and the other half chose a Taylor Swift lyric. We ate fun snacks and listened to a playlist created by Nora (which, of course, included lots of songs by Taylor Swift). It was a blast! ♄

Just finished night two of making art with middle school girls! We learned about working from observation, underpainting, creating values, and layering color. I am very impressed with the floral paintings the girls created! We are ready to put all our skills together on canvas on Friday! 💐

Tonight we kicked off Middle School Girls’ Art Nights at Scribble’n’Sketch. My daughter Nora taught the girls an intro to hand lettering. It was so much fun! Can hardly wait for Wednesday!

Week One of Summer Sesh is in the books!

K-2nd graders assembled their Van Gogh-inspired artworks, and they came out so darn cute! They also created scratch art by layering oil pastels. So fun (and so messy!)

3rd-5th graders finished their big fluorescent mandalas, which turned out so bright and fun! They then got to create prints by carving pink erasers. This was inspired by and the kids loved it! It was challenging, but many of them said they want to buy a linocut tool and keep working on this skill at home!

What an awesome three days we had. And what a GREAT group of kiddos!!! đŸ„°

Here are some pics from Summer Sesh: week one, day two!

K-2nd graders finished their fluorescent line art. We talked about how just the simple elements of color, shape, and line can work together to make an awesome artwork! Then they painted their Model Magic sculpture pieces from yesterday. They also started a piece using bleeding tissue paper. And they created adorable rainbow weavings! (Parents, they were super focused on their weaving! Paper weaving is a fun and accessible activity to do at home too. Bonus: Weaving builds hand-eye coordination!) It was a full and productive class!

3rd-5th graders also accomplished a lot today! They looked to Robert Indiana’s iconic font alphabet to finish their “four-letter” art. Next they began working with fluorescent paints to start painting large mandalas. (What is it about neon colors that is just so much more fun?!) And they got to take home their super cool paint scraper paintings today!
