Life’s been a whirlwind 🌪️, and I haven’t had much time to post, despite having lots of ideas 💡 ready to share! But I’m thrilled to share some exciting news—I recently received an on-campus award 🏆 from the Student Affairs Leadership Team. A huge thank you to Carrie Williams, our Director of Disabilities Services, for the nomination 🙏. This recognition for my dedication, work, and (collaborative) research on closed-captioning means so much. Even with a packed schedule, I’m feeling incredibly grateful and motivated to keep pushing forward!

If your course requires textbooks, considering using books that have an electronic version on such platforms like Kindle. This allows students with certain visual impairments the affordance of manipulating the size and brightness of the text and those with certain hearing impairments to have the text read aloud to them. This is ideal for literature-based texts rather than texts with charts, graphs, etc.

In November, I was invited to speak on a panel about 1st generation college students (from my perspective as both a faculty member and as a former 1st gen student). Surprisingly, I wasn't even the first one to point out the importance of accessibility on 1st gen success. Yay! 🙌
