I highly recommend this book for teaching tolerance to people of all ages, and I believe that it should be in every library and every school. I love the way the author and illustrator tell this story about how some people may not be able to speak but are just as capable and valuable to our world as anyone else. The story and the drawings masterfully capture the very real thoughts and feelings of a son and his mother on a day out into the world. It also provides a really great example for those of us who may not know how to react or respond when we interact with someone different from anyone else that we may have met before. The answer -- with respect and compassion -- isn't a surprise, but many people struggle with just how to do this. This story shows you how in a warm and welcoming way. The illustrations fittingly magnify and uplift the lessons in this story with no words. It's a beautiful book for educators, children of all abilities and parents who want to help make the world a better place for us all.
