Our children are learning about responsibility, compassion, science, nature, life cycles, and caring for living things while experiencing the excitement of watching our chicks grow. These everyday experiences spark curiosity, build confidence, and create meaningful learning opportunities that children will remember for years to come. 🌻💚

🌱🥕 FROM OUR GARDEN TO OUR COMMUNITY! 🥕🌱

We’re growing more than vegetables at Precious Moments Family Childcare—we’re growing community! 💚

We are so excited to launch our Community Harvest Basket Initiative, where families in our PMFC community are invited to take what they need and share the love. 🥒🍅🥬🫑

This special initiative was made possible through the generous support from the Bainum Family Foundation and our designation as a WeVision EarlyEd Solutions Lab Site. Their investment gave us the opportunity to dream bigger, grow more, and turn our garden into a resource that reaches beyond our little backyard. 🌱✨

Our children are learning that gardening is about so much more than planting seeds. It’s about:
🌿 Growing with care
🥕 Making healthy choices
❤️ Practicing generosity
🤝 Strengthening community
🌎 Caring for the world around us

I couldn’t agree more. High-quality early childhood education is built on relationships, individualized instruction, developmentally appropriate practices, and strong teacher-child interactions—not larger class sizes, fewer learning hours, or reduced standards. Our youngest learners deserve policies grounded in research and a commitment to quality, especially for children and families who rely on Head Start.

Statement on proposed Head Start deregulation from Steve Barnett, the founder and senior director of the National Institute for Early Education Research at Rutgers University:

“The Trump Administration’s proposal to remove 80% of Head Start regulations could undermine the program’s ability to fulfill its purpose of improving the school readiness of children in poverty.

"Among the most important targets of the proposed deregulations are the elimination of child-staff ratios, which could lead to higher child to teacher ratios, double or even triple for infants and toddlers in some Head Start programs.

"Low child-staff ratios are linked to better school readiness. The most comprehensive research reveals that success depends on individualized teaching 1:1 and in small groups. That is why our Institute recommends no more than 1:10 as a staff:child ratio among 10 research-based preschool quality standards, and why Head Start and most state-funded pre-K programs mandate lower child-staff ratios than child care licensing standards.

"Also of concern are the reduction in required hours to just 3 hours per day for 128 days a year and a new requirement for English-only instruction. Fewer hours make it even more difficult to individualize instruction. Limiting instruction to English has no advantage for learning English and increases loss of home language, while dual language fluency has cognitive, social, and economic advantages.

"While reductions in federal micromanagement of Head Start have long been needed, the program should align with the best state pre-K standards rather than defaulting to states’ child care licensing minimums as the administration proposes. Whether public or private, high-quality pre-K programs have been found to produce large improvements in school readiness and success, educational attainment, and adult earnings."

Yesterday was one of those full-circle moments. 🥹💛

I had the incredible honor of standing on the stage at the 2026 ASPIRE Symposium as a Keynote Speaker alongside my amazing colleague and friend, Jenn Nicholls.

And as I looked out into a room filled with Family Child Care Educators, I couldn’t help but think about my own journey.

ASPIRE was one of those steps I took that truly elevated my practice. It challenged me to dig deeper, continue learning, and be even more intentional about how I show up as an educator and a leader.

I’ve always known there was a leader in me. ❤️ But ASPIRE helped strengthen my practice, expand my perspective, and empowered me to use my voice in ways I never imagined.

And somewhere along the way, that voice got louder. 🔥

A voice that advocates.
A voice that challenges systems.
A voice that speaks up for Family Child Care Educators.
A voice that I know MATTERS.

Today, Jenn and I had the privilege of talking about The ASPIRE Way — professionalism, lifelong learning, leadership, and community. But these aren’t just words. They are values that have shaped my journey and continue to push me forward.

So, to my fellow Family Child Care Educators… STEP INTO YOUR POWER! 🔥

Please stop shrinking yourself.
Stop questioning whether you belong in the room.

YOU ARE THE EXPERT.
YOUR EXPERIENCE IS VALUABLE.
YOUR VOICE IS NEEDED.

And if this work ever feels lonely or isolating… FIND YOUR PEOPLE. ❤️ Find the educators who will pour into you, challenge you, celebrate you, and remind you of your power.

Because one thing I know for sure…

✨ WE ARE STRONGER TOGETHER. ✨

Today, I stood on that stage incredibly proud of how far I’ve come… but even more excited about the Family Child Care Educators who are finding their voices and stepping into their own power.

This is bigger than me. This is about US. 👏🏾❤️🔥

🌟Proud to chair the Board of Children’s Opportunity Alliance (COA) and represent family childcare educators across our County!🌟

Early care and education ( ) professionals are the lifeblood of the system. We need to support their critical work that sustains high-quality, accessible ECE in Montgomery County. This is why the Alliance advocates for better pay, benefits, and system-wide structures that uplift the workforce. But we cannot do this alone. We depend on the efforts, expertise, and resources that partners and community members offer.

“Finding high-quality, affordable child care has just been really hard,” Danielle, a local parent enrolled explains. Although her family eventually received the EquiCare Grant, Danielle knows many families that don’t qualify. Accessible needs to be a priority in our community, so that all children receive the they deserve.
