This week, our students marked October 7 through thoughtful, age-appropriate learning, reflection, tefillah, and remembrance across our divisions.
In Lower School, our fifth graders reflected on their hopes for Am Yisrael and Eretz Yisrael and considered ways they can strengthen themselves and the Jewish people. Working together, they assembled puzzle pieces that revealed the words עם הנצח — “the eternal nation.” The activity opened a meaningful conversation about the strength of Am Yisrael and the power of unity. Students also heard personal reflections from our Bnot, watched videos, said Tehillim, and sang Acheinu together.
In Middle School, students explored the theme “Know. Remember. Carry It With You.” Through guided reflection, they considered what connects them to the stories of October 7, the qualities that stood out in those they learned about, the values and messages they want to carry forward, and the questions they would want to ask if they could meet them.
In Upper School, students came together for special commemorative tefillot, with a memorial candle placed in the Upper School hallway. Classes also created space for learning, discussion, and reflection. That learning will continue during the Berman Mission, when they will visit the Nova Festival site and surrounding communities and learn firsthand about the events of October 7 and their lasting impact.
