Sulam Special education inclusion program for students with learning differences at Jewish day schools.

Sulam is an independent non-profit organization with its own teachers and administrative team, operating as a school program that is integrated within a larger Jewish day school environment to fulfill its inclusion goals and mandate. Sulam serves students in grades 1-12 at Berman Hebrew Academy and grades 1-5 at the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School (Sulam@JDS) with learning differences that incl

ude ADHD, autism, language based learning disability, twice exceptional (gifted and talented, learning disabled), and related emotional disorders and intellectual disabilities. Sulam offers its students an innovative approach to education in an inclusive setting, and trains educators in a cutting-edge, research-based framework that elevates the Jewish educational experience and supports the diversity of all learners. We aim to broaden the intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual lives of students, their families, and the entire community.

From our littles to our bigs, we loved seeing our students back in the building and ready to kick off a brand-new school year!

Here’s a little snapshot of the smiles, learning, reconnecting, and excitement from Day 1. We can’t wait to see all that this year has in store!

We wrapped up our final day of Sulam teacher orientation by coming back to something at the heart of who we are: our Culture Code.

Last year, our team worked together to define the culture we want to intentionally build at Sulam. Today, we checked back in not just on the words, but on whether we are truly living and breathing them.

“Vision is where you’re going. Culture is what makes sure you get there.”

At Sulam, we strive to be an organization that:
-Nurtures growth with compassion
-Builds people up with respect and kindness
-Believes in the power of community
-Creates a culture where passion and joy fuel authentic human connection

Our team broke into groups to explore what these values actually look like, sound like, and feel like in our everyday work with our students, our colleagues, and our community.

Because culture isn’t just something we write down. It’s the stuff people do without noticing. And that’s the kind of culture we want to keep building together.

Shabbat Shalom
💙

Our 2026 Stand Up for Inclusion Benefit with international comedian יוחאי ספונדר Yohay Sponder was unforgettable!

Hundreds from our Sulam community joined us to laugh for a cause and help us reach our fundraising goal for the Schram Family Scholarship Fund.

We were inspired by Yohay’s incredible performance and by student speaker Nili Goldberg, who shared her powerful Sulam journey and reminded us why this work matters.

Thank you for making the evening so meaningful.
