A major healthcare milestone is coming to coastal North Carolina.
Novant Health Scotts Hill Medical Center is set to open June 16, bringing New Hanover County its first new hospital in nearly 60 years. The $294 million facility will feature eight ORs, dedicated pre-op and PACU space, a cath lab, endoscopy services, and digitally enabled patient rooms designed to support collaboration with offsite specialists.

Could a low-cost medication help reduce blood transfusions during major surgery without increasing clotting risk?
A new study published in The New England Journal of Medicine found that patients who received tranexamic acid during major noncardiac surgery were less likely to require a red-cell transfusion than those who received a placebo, while maintaining a similar rate of venous thromboembolism.

You cannot wish your way to a strong culture: Why leadership development must be built into your system
This new article from Dr. Jake Tayler Jacobs argues that in perioperative and other high-performing environments, capable people are often promoted into leadership roles without ever being intentionally taught how to lead.
The result is predictable: culture gets managed through effort and hope, not design.
If leadership development isn't structured, consistent, and embedded into daily work, then accountability, communication, and team performance will always vary by chance instead of design.
