Arco Iris Somos Spanish Immersion

Directed by a native Spanish Speaker with a degree in Education and Spanish, Certification in Early Childhood Education, member of the National Network for Early Language Learning (NNELL) and the Maryland Foreign Language Association. Nine years ago, Lupe co-founded the Spanish Immersion Summer Camp. She is the creator, and for three years coordinated, the "Grupo de Juego" Spanish Program at the T

ESS Center in Takoma Park. She taught Spanish to home-schooled children ages 4 to 6 in the Rockville area. She taught Spanish for 2 years at Paint Branch Montessori School to Pre-K through 6th grade students. For 2 years students at the Takoma Park Child Development Center loved to answer "Excelente!" whenever Sra. She ran "La Hora de Juego" play time program at the Takoma Park Library for 2 years. She taught at Clara Barton Center for Children in Bethesda for 2 years. Currently, she runs a bilingual program at the Little Falls Library in Bethesda, Chevy Chase Library in Chevy Chase and at Noyes Library in Kensington. She served as head of the Teacher Development Training Committee at Adat Shalom Torah School in Bethesda, and sat on the Torah School's Board for the school year 2009-2010. She is member of the Maryland Foreign Language Association and National Network for Early Language Learning. Lupe has been incorporating Faber and Mazlish's How To Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk(HarperCollins 2002) and How To Talk So Kids Can Learn(Simon & Schuster 2003) in her classes. She implements techniques from Fay and Funk's Teaching with Love and Logic(Love and Logic Press 1995), and Lawrence Cohen's Playful Parenting (Ballantine, 2001). She has attended workshops on Implementing the Multiple Intelligences Theory in World Languages Classes (2009), Teaching Social Awareness trough Spanish Music (2009), Thinking Outside the Bubble: Benefits of Teaching with Comic Books (2009), Escaping "Textbook" Procedure: Using Real-World Resources in the Spanish Classroom (2009), Transform your Classroom into a TV Show Studio (2009), Building the Target Language through Literature (2009), Instruction through Storytelling (2009), and Addressing the Needs of Native Speakers in FLES (2009). Lupe's work with children was featured on the front page of the February 1, 2006 edition of the Takoma Park Gazette. She was invited to perform at The 30th Washington Folk Festival on June 15, 2010. Arco Iris Somos Pre-School has been created as a natural extension of Sra. Lupe's Mommy and Me circle times, Spanish Immersion Enrichment Programs. Spanish Immersion Spring and Summer Camps which she co-founded 9 years ago has been directing successfully in the DC metropolitan area for a period of six-weeks and approximately 50 children every summer.
