Full-day and partial-day placement is available to children ages 2 to 6 years old. Montessori education and quality child care are provided by our professional, caring staff. Through a variety of teaching methodologies we provide an enriched program that makes learning challenging, exciting, and enjoyable. We know children have a natural and spontaneous curiosity and are constantly learning and applying skills and concepts from the world around them. We know children learn best through "hands-on" experience. By participating in the actual lessons and understanding them, the child develops an ability to problem solve, investigate and question. Using this methodology, your child develops a positive self-image as well as respect for themselves and those around them. We appreciate the individuality of each child and believe that no two children learn at the same pace, nor learn best by the same method. We provide a flexible and creative approach to best meet the needs of each child through an individualized learning plan addressing his or her own specific social and educational needs. The early learning experiences, as well as the people involved in their daily lives, have an important influence on the development of positive attitudes in the educational, social, emotional and physical aspects of your child. The growth and development of your child can best be achieved through a parent-teacher partnership with open communication. Parent-teacher conferences may be scheduled at any time. Observation of your child in their classroom is welcome and parent involvement in our activities is always appreciated. We know that a safe, loving, nurturing environment is essential for the well-being of each child. This is the foundation of our program. Our staff is dedicated to providing an atmosphere and environment of security as well as an outstanding instructional program to meet the needs of you and your child. The instructional program of Norbeck Montessori Center is fully accredited by the Maryland State Board of Education. The child care program is licensed by the Maryland Office of Child Care. We know that their brains are growing at rapid rates and therefore require the appropriate educational environment; one that will have positive and long-term effects on their lifespans. Introducing these positive effects early on enables them to become a permanent parts of their lives- something they can carry on through all the stage of life. We help children grow positively by teaching them the values and habits of their environment. They are shown how to place things into categories and relationships that are useful in discovering and learning their surroundings.
