Join us! Just ahead of Juneteenth and the reopening of the historic Pleasant View site in Gaithersburg, Montgomery County native Jason Green will visit The Universities at Shady Grove for a conversation on leadership, belonging, and building stronger, more equitable communities.

Drawing from his family's ties to Pleasant View and his book, Too Precious to Lose: A Memoir of Family, Community and Possibility, Green will share how history and identity shaped his journey—from MoCo to the White House—and how those lessons can help all of us create positive change.

Oliver made it happen. 🎓

By taking classes at the Universities at Shady Grove campus, Oliver earned two degrees from UMBC—a B.A. in Social Work and a B.A. in Psychology.

Along the way, he built meaningful connections, got involved with the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), and found opportunities that helped him grow both personally and professionally.

His advice for new students: get involved, don’t be afraid to ask questions, and take advantage of the opportunities around you.

Next up: pursuing his Master of Social Work through the University of Maryland, Baltimore at USG.

Congratulations, Oliver and the Class of 2026!

From innovative research and capstone projects to inspiring TED-style talks, short films, and stunning visual art, students at USG wrapped up the academic year by sharing their ideas, creativity, and expertise with the community.

At Exhibition Day, CommFest, and Mosaic: The 74th Biannual Senior Exhibition, students demonstrated not only what they've learned, but also the communication, presentation, and professional skills that will help them succeed beyond graduation.

👏 Congratulations to all of the presenters, researchers, filmmakers, artists, and designers who showcased their incredible work!

🎨 There's still time to experience Mosaic: The 74th Biannual Senior Exhibition, on view through July 10 at the Silberman Gallery, Montgomery College Rockville Campus.

What can Montgomery County's history teach us about its future?

Join Montgomery County native Jason Green for a fireside conversation inspired by his book, Too Precious to Lose: A Memoir of Family, Community and Possibility. Taking place just before Juneteenth, this discussion explores how understanding the stories, people, and places that shape our communities can help us build stronger connections and a more vibrant future.

At the heart of Green's story is Pleasant View, a historic Montgomery County site whose 158-year legacy offers lessons in resilience, responsibility, and community. Together, we'll reflect on how preserving and understanding our shared history can inspire what comes next.

Don't miss this opportunity to explore a local story with lessons that resonate across generations and throughout our community.
