Working on hand/eye coordination is an important part of player development. By challenging our visual skills it will improve balance, focus, concentration, swing path and alertness. On an important side note: ALWAYS, ALWAYS PROTECT THE MCNUGGET! It will save you from a world of pain! ⚾️⚾️ and

Adding to yesterday’s post...when attempting to connect and create a good bat path, hitters tend to lean back or fly open with with their front shoulder. Shoulders and head shouldn’t be moving or tensing up at all. Only elbows should be. Just like a “sea saw”, the front elbow goes up, simultaneously the back elbow goes down. This is how we connect high on our back shoulder. We shouldn’t be tense with our upper half. Entire upper half should be nice and relaxed as the connection begins to happen. Think “sea saw” when connecting the barrel high on our shoulder in order to create a good barrel path.

Barrel control is key to being a consistent hitter. So many young hitters have consistency issues because the lack of control. Their barrel separates from the shoulder causing us to disconnect and come around the pitch. Or the barrel drops way below the shoulder line causing the hitters to try and match the plane of the pitch from underneath and be inconsistent. Making sure we connect the barrel on to our back shoulder allows for great barrel control and awareness.

Great advice by the guys .
You can only Control You. Don’t make excuses because you are O-for or because the opposing pitcher is “nasty” on a given day.
Have complete control over emotions and your mind every at bat.
The GOAL should be to have a quality at bat every at bat.
Be PREPARED. Watch the pitcher while he warms up, watch the pitcher from the very first pitch. No matter where you are hitting in the line up, you should have a very good idea of the pitchers tendencies. What does he throw when he is ahead of the count, what does he seem to throw when he is behind in the count?
Have a growth mindset. This can be tough but you can’t change the past so get over it. Learn from it but move on.
Control what you can can control. Control YOU!

Explaining the importance of staying connected throughout the swing to my guy Eli. Majority of young hitters have such issues. I know I had the same issue throughout my playing career. Young hitter become very handsy and push their hands down, out, or forward and disconnect from their body right away. Which will lead to a lot of inconsistency. Understanding and learning how to stay connected high throughout ones swing will create a good barrel path, plate coverage and consistency at the plate. # marylandbaseball

• Palm Up Palm Down at Contact
• Lower Half fires ahead of the upper half
• Shoulders, wrists, elbows all work together as the upper body rotates.

At first glance, you might think that this post is about the man at the plate Eric Thames....although that was a beautiful swing and a monster shot...this post is about the man on deck. Check out what he is trying to accomplish while in the on deck circle. He is trying to get in sync with the pitcher, trying to time his pitches even before he steps into the batters box. Look closely and you’ll see that Grandal and Thames have timed the pitcher perfectly. This should be every hitters goal while on deck. Not looking into the stands, not taking to people, not taking meaningless hacks as you await your turn. Be mentally prepared to do damage way before you step into the batters box. Have a game plan, get in sync with the pitcher and execute when it’s your turn. There is no doubt that Grandal would have hit a homerun on that pitch as well. He and Thames where perfectly in sync with that pitch....

Met my boy about mid/late January of this year. The man has been relentlessly working his tail off ever since. Always asking questions, always learning, always improving. There is no doubt that he’s made huge strides forward after months and months of mistakes, adjustments , and the desire to get better on a daily basis! The scary part that he is still learning, still improving and still has so much room for growth! I see big things for in the near future. Keep working your ass off and don’t ever be satisfied! Your work ethic is second to none broooooo!

Working with on understanding how to turn and accelerate the barrel behind the baseball. This is a great drill for players of all ages to understand how the body is suppose to work in proper sequence while accelerating the barrel deep in the zone. Arms should not be locked out at contact. They should be bent in a compact and powerful position. How loud can you make that bag pop?
