On August 4th, Edwards County 4-H held a summer day camp that was rescheduled due to the July flooding. Edwards County 4-H youth participated in a service project cleaning trash from the Edwards County 4-H and Rocksprings FFA stretch of highway, an art project hosted by Brenna Bissett, officer elections, and fun with a bounce house and water slide.

On May 26th, Edwards County 4-H was recognized by the Edwards County Economic Development Corporation as the Community Helper of the Month. 4-H members Andrew Hurt, Barrett Bissett, Reverdy Kerbow, and Olivia Bissett were in attendance to accept the honor. The 4-H members in attendance spoke on projects they have been involved in, community service opportunities, and contests they participated in or have upcoming. Thank you from the Edwards County 4-H Club to the Edwards County Economic Development Corporation for recognizing the youth of Edwards County.

Edwards County 4-H youth participated in weekly food programs following the Food Challenge Explorer Guide every Friday from March 20th through April 24th. Lessons in this explorer guide included: My Plate, Food Preparation, Food Substitutions, Keeping Food Safe, Food Garnishing, and Cost Analysis. After each weekly lesson, 4-H members created a meal for the group to enjoy.

The weekly food programs always come to and end with the Edwards County Food, Art, and Photography Show. This year, the Food, Art, and Photography Show was held on May 2nd at the 4-H barn. This year, we had 14 youth enter 26 photographs, 12 youth enter 13 art entries, and 12 youth participating in the food show (9 entered into the bonus desert category). The placings for each of these shows are as follows:

Monthly meeting is tonight 04/27 at 5:30. We will be planting seeds and talking about how we can grow our own food.

Here are some reminders for the rest of April and into early May:

Final Weekly Food Program will be held Friday, 4/23 at 4:30 PM in the 4-H barn. Bissett family will be leading this one.
Photography entries are due 4/25, please have them to me before then, if possible. Please email all entries to me, I will be getting them printed Sunday morning.
4-H Regular Meeting will be held on 4/27 at 5:30 PM in the 4-H barn. Davis-Hickey and Ward families are on refreshments for this meeting.
ECJLA Annual Meeting will be held on 4/29 at 5:30 PM in the 4-H barn.
Early State Fair Swine Validation tag orders are due by 5:00 PM on 4/29. SFT swine tags are $25/ea. Tags must be paid for in full with check or money order prior to submitting an order.
All physical art entries for the Edwards County Food, Art, and Photography Show must be turned into my office by 4/30 at 5:00 PM.
Edwards County Food, Art, and Photography Show will begin, promptly at 10:00 AM on 5/2. Please plan to be there early with everything ready to go at 10:00 AM. Rules and practice questions are attached. Additional resources can be found on the Texas 4-H Food and Nutrition website here.

To round out the major show season Edwards County 4-H had exhibitors participate in the Market Barrow and Market Lamb shows in Houston and the Wether Doe and Market Goat Shows in Austin.

Rachel Gavlik took a cross barrow to Houston, Zachary and Abigail Hyde took their Market Lambs to Houston. All three did an excellent job in Houston!

Taylor Gray, Zane Gray, Barrett Bissett, and Olivia Bissett brought their Wether Doe projects to Austin. Congratulations to Taylor Gray on an 11th place finish in the first class of the day!

Barrett Bissett and Olivia Bisset both exhibited their Market Goat projects in Austin. Congratulations to Barrett Bissett getting pulled in a very competitive class!

To close out the major show season and her show career, Rachel Gavlik brought a cross barrow to Austin.

All seven exhibitors participating in the last two shows of the season have a done a great job with their projects this year!
