Camden Hills Regional High School - Intercultural Program

Camden Hills Regional High School - Intercultural Program “Preparing Students for Success as Global Citizens” Toward this end, we focus on two types of experiences.

1. We hope you find one that works for you.

Although there are many ways for students to become better global citizens, we believe that first hand experiences are the most powerful way for students and staff to learn to honor and respect the value, dignity and beauty of all people. Experiences in our school and community through which students from countries learn what America and Americans are really like.

2. Experiences in other countrie

s through which our students and staff learn what life is really like in other cultures. In pursuit of our goal of helping develop global citizens we have created several international programs.

OPPORTUNITY TO HOST AN EXCHANGE STUDENT-- SPRING 2021
Although the pandemic has limited our international program this year, an opportunity has arisen for CHRHS to host an exchange student for the spring semester. The prospective student is a 17-year-old girl from Italy. Naturally, she is aware that school will not be "normal" this year, because it isn't "normal" anywhere. She has agreed to the strict health and safety requirements that the current times require, and understands that a fair portion of our spring semester may involve remote learning from home.

Despite the challenges of the pandemic, hosting an exchange student is still a fantastic opportunity to form lifelong relationships. Any CHRHS families who would be interested in hosting this student are encouraged to contact Mr. Tom Gray, CHRHS Intercultural Program Coordinator, at [email protected].

Have you ever considered hosting an exchange student for a semester or a year? The CHRHS Intercultural Program is actively seeking host families for this spring, next year, and beyond. Hosting an exchange student offers many rewards than cannot be experienced any other way-- coming face-to-face with a new culture, seeing your own culture and home in a new light, and expanding your family with a new relationship that is likely to endure far beyond the hosting, itself.

At this point, we are actively seeking host families for both the remainder of this school year and next year. In some cases, host families may receive monthly stipends to offset the expenses of hosting.

If you would like to learn more about the opportunities to host an international student at CHRHS, please contact Mr. Tom Gray, Intercultural Program Coordinator, at [email protected].

Shout out from Lin-Manuel Miranda! There may be a few excited students around school today. And maybe a few excited staff as well... Thank you to Kim Murphy for organizing the donations, and thank you to everyone who donated so that we could make this effort.
