Mr. Code's Wild Ride

04/12/2026

There's a lot of talk about AI these days, some good, and some bad. But one thing I can say for sure is that AI is absolutely amazing at writing code, with good human guidance. For example, I was able to make this parks finder web app in just a few hours without writing a single line of code:

AI wrote all of the code, but I had to guide it with thoughtful prompts, which is a skill in itself. This fall, we will be offering a couple of new AI classes to teach these valuable skills:

We teach programming fundamentals using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Node.js.

We will be offering two additional classes at multiple learning centers starting next semester.

The first is Practical Math with Coding where students learn practical math concepts like tips and taxes, interest and monthly payments, probability and expected value, etc. Students learn how to code by building programs to apply these math concepts.

The second is Computer Basics and Typing where students learn basic computer skills like using a web browser, understanding the file system, knowing hotkeys, etc. Students also learn touch typing through 100 online lessons.

We teach programming fundamentals using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Node.js.

Thank you to my friend Ron Wang for helping me add eight new projects to our web coding curriculum. These projects are fun and designed to ease beginners into coding. They include a comic strip maker, a super simple racing game, and an animation strip. We now have 100 projects in our web coding curriculum.

We teach programming fundamentals using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Node.js.

Congrats to my former student Jonathan for getting another internship at Microsoft as a software development engineer.

My students and former students once again competed in HP CodeWars, a tough coding competition for high schoolers. My top team ranked 5th out of 61 teams. It may not be first or even top three, but I'm still proud of Nicholas, Andy, and Ricky! Some of the competition problems are on par with Google tech interview problems.

Our first time competing in person at HP CodeWars, a tough coding competition for high schoolers. We represented nine students. We didn't win, but everybody had fun. And congrats to Nicholas for winning an HP laptop in the random drawing.
