Sierra College Regional Fire Academy's goal is to give students the tools and education to be the most competitive fire service applicants in the nation; and to make them successful as a new firefighter once hired by a professional fire service agency. lle Fire Department. Students must enroll in FT 100, Firefighter I & II Academy (580 hours) and FT 100A Fire Academy Physical Training (80 hours). Prerequisites to the Academy require completion of Fire Technology 1, Fire Protection Organization and Health Science 2, Emergency Medical Technician. The Firefighter I and II Academy is offered in an extended format (evenings and weekend classes), which enables students to maintain employment while preparing for a career in the fire service. We also off the Firefighter I and II in a full time format, Monday-Friday 8a-5pm. The fall Academy is held July through December, and in the spring we offer two Academies, January through late May, one in Roseville and one in Grass Valley. The Roseville Academy classes are held Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights and on Saturday and Sundays. The Grass Valley Academy in the spring is held Monday through Friday with just a couple Saturday and Sundays. The Physical Training classes meet on Monday and Wednesday nights. Upon successful completion of the Academy, students will meet the training requirements for the California State Fire Marshal Firefighter I and II. Student will then be able to apply for the Firefighter 1 Certification. Students will be able to apply for the Firefighter II certification after completion of the Firefighter II Task Book and six months of paid internship or a year of volunteering. The California State Fire Marshal’s Office is National accredited certification, which is approved by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) and the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board). Student completing the Academy will be eligible to apply for these additional certifications. Students will also receive the following State Fire Training certificates:

Note: Some Personal Protective Equipment will be provided by the Academy, with the exception of footwear, hoods, and gloves (for health reasons). Students must also provide their own uniforms. Enrollment fees as set by the California State Legislature, are $46.00 per unit and are subject to change. Students will be responsible for the difference in enrollment fees if such changes are enacted by the Legislature. Following are estimated expenses to participate in the Academy.
