A couple days ago, we shared the heartbreaking news that we lost our ducks. Today, we are saddened to share that we have lost another member of our flock.
Bastet, our beloved leader hen, was truly one of a kind. Named after the Egyptian goddess and handpicked by Mrs. Kat two years ago, she quickly became the heart of the flock. Her nickname, “Battle Axe,” reflected just how strong, bold, and protective she was of her girls. She especially loved her free-ranging days, and we like to think of her as finding peace and freedom once again.
She shared a deep bond with her sisters, Christiana and Vera Wing, who will miss her dearly. Bastet was always the one looking out for her flock, and her presence will be profoundly missed.
We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the parents who responded so quickly, showed up ready to help, and supported us in fortifying and caring for our chicken pen. Your kindness and willingness to step in means more than we can say.
Thank you for holding our school community and our animals in your thoughts during this difficult time.
