Steel House is a collaborative environment in Rockland, Maine for designers, builders, artists, technologists, educators, and others to work together and create great things. We teach classes, host events, build products, and expand cultural and economic opportunity in our community and the world at large. With many people and skills represented, there's a natural ecosystem where sharing knowledge

and resources is encouraged and camaraderie is sparked. Our shared space and resources cultivate a collaborative environment that allow us to develop small creative business, provide unique educational programs, and engage the community.

“Rattle The Cage”, a FREE performance event by Steel House residents and artists/activists The Forty Hour Club. The event will take place on Sunday, August 16th at 3pm at the group’s environmental art installation “A Hole For One!—currently on display at The Steel House Amphitheater.
The large-scale installation, companion gallery exhibit, and event—supported in part by The Maine Arts Commission—confronts the unnatural forces of ego and greed and stands as a uniquely American celebration of diversity and inclusion, as well as an historic indictment of the destructive myth of the “Great Man”.

“Rattle The Cage” will feature an introduction by Bob Keyes, Chair of The Maine Arts Commission, a short performance, poetry, and more meant to encourage meaningful dialog, challenge authoritarianism, defend democracy, and celebrate diversity, inclusion, and the power of “The People”.

The art installation and gallery exhibit are open to the public through September 30th. Gallery hours are daily 10am-5pm. The outdoor installation is accessible 24/7.

Maine Arts Commission is in our amphitheater out back beginning their interactive art installation ‘A Hole for One’, coming in August to the Steelhouse. Throughout the month, they will have both work in the Steelhouse gallery as well as in the amphitheater… be sure not to miss it!
