Last Thursday, we celebrated and bid a fond farewell to two of Rockford Lutheran School’s good and faithful servants.

Pam Black joined Rockford Lutheran School in 1986. She worked in Human Resources and also coached softball, bowling, and golf.

Darryl Mertz joined Rockford Lutheran School in 1988. During his 34 years at Rockford Lutheran, he served as the Head of the Foreign Language Department and taught German, Intro to French/Spanish/German/Russian, Religion, History, Geography, and Drama. He also served as a former Theater & Drama Director and coached football, track, and softball.

Thank you Pam and Darryl for your many years of service to Rockford Lutheran School. Your legacy will continue through the lives you have so graciously touched! May God bless your retirement!

The weather held out, and Field Day was a go! The kids had so much fun! A big thank you to all the parent volunteers.

Congratulations to First grader Brigid Hart on her baptism this morning in chapel. Thank you to Pastor Rob James for baptizing Brigid. Thank you to the Harts for allowing all of the RLA students to be part of this special occasion.

The RLA kids were AMAZING today during our walkathon! It was hot but they cooled down with some water and ice pops. They plugged away and put in a ton of laps. We are so proud of them!

I’m so excited about the Walkathon on Tuesday – this is going to be fun!

So far, we have about $4,200 in pledges. That’s a great start. We would sure love to do more!

Kindergarten is leading right now with over $1,200 in pledges. Fourth grade is in 2nd place with $995 in pledges. We would love to have 100% of our kindergarten through 5th graders have some pledges! Help us to achieve our goal.

Here’s how it will work:
Students will get pledges online through 99Pledges. All you have to do is go to the site (see link below) and search for your child (by first name). You can make a donation of whatever amount you choose – per lap or a flat amount. Then send the link for your child’s page to your family and friends via email, Facebook, etc. Your child’s page is specifically for them. You can say to family and friends: “NAME is participating in a walk-a-thon and we would love your support. If you would like to donate, you can do so online at the following link: YOUR PLEDGE PAGE LINK” You don’t have to mess with checks or tracking commitments or anything!
On Tuesday, May 10, your child, along with lots of other student, walks the “track” that we have established. The track is actually about 1/3 of a mile. We record the number of laps that they walk.
During the walk-a-thon there will be fun things happening – playground breaks, ice pops, various challenges, etc. We want it to be fun for our students!

The donations received will go toward the following projects (in this order):
Replacement of the 4th and 5th grade lockers in the cafeteria.
Modifications to the front of the church to make it work better for performances and programs.
The Finish Strong Campaign which is focused on renovating the junior high gym on the high school campus.

MORE GOOD NEWS: We have a generous donor that will match every donation made through this event. Your $25 gift will become $50. Your $100 gift will become $200.

The forecast for Tuesday, May 10 is sunny and warm!

In addition to helping our school, we have incentives:
- Every student that raises $100 gets a special ice cream treat at a later date.
- The grade level (K-5) that raises the most money gets a free dress code day and a dance party before the end of the year.
- The three students who raise the most and the students who raises the most in each grade level get a special lunch with me next week.

The junior high and high school students will be having a walk-a-thon on their campus at the same time!

Elementary Walk-a-thon 2022 Help us make some improvements at Rockford Lutheran Academy. The first thing we want to do is replace our 4th and 5th grade lockers in our cafeteria. Then we want to rework the front of our chapel to make more of a stage for performances. Our walk-a-thon will be on Tuesday May 10. The first $10,000....

In celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week, student members of the Kindness Crew prepared gift bags that included notes, flair pens, a teacher bracelet, and candy. Students hand-delivered the gift bags on Monday to both the Academy and Jr/Sr High. Thank you for your kindness in making this a special day for our Rockford Lutheran School teachers!
