Big cheers from RPS 205 school board! Jefferson senior Mikiah Gerrity was honored as Rockford’s 2026 Youth Poet Laureate. This Poetry Out Loud champ is headed back to state March 2!!!

Jefferson has arrived at IHSA Sectionals. Our speechies have put in the work. Time to see the results!

The Jefferson Speech Team is excited to share that JHS Senior Mikiah Gerrity was officially recognized this past week as the 2026 City of Rockford Youth Poet (in association with the RAAC Rockford Area Arts Council and the Rockford Public Library). Mikiah will bring her joy, spirit, and unflinching work ethic to the role of advocating for the arts in Rockford for this year. They couldn't have chosen a better person (in our humble opinion)

Small but mighty! We were a bit rusty from a month off from competition, but we were back at it. Took our best to UTHS and cleaned up! All of our J-Hawks made the finals stage. Congratulations to:

Francisco - 7th place SOS

We're proud announce that the Jefferson Speech Team has put forward Senior Mikiah Gerrity's name as a nominee for the City of Rockford's Youth Poet Laureate. Mikiah's dedication to the advancement of poetry and the spoken word has been exemplary and we're sure she'll tackle the nomination process with as much focus as she has every challenge placed before her. We wish her luck as she moves forward in the interview process.

Time to start the season! Informational meeting tonight after school in room 287. Activity bus passes will be available.

After classroom presentations, over 120 people indicated interest in this year's team. We'll see how many commit to the season, but that's a solid start!
