Here is a preview of this weeks game.

Rams travel to Caledonia to square off with resurgent Fighting Scots

Caledonia has missed the playoffs for the last two seasons on the football field. Albeit narrowly last year when they were the first team out in Division 1. The 2025 season was marred by injuries with the big one being to their talented 6'4" quarterback Bryce Backus. Backus missed basically the entire 2025 campaign with a shoulder injury. The bad news for OK Red opponents this year is that he is 100% this year and the early results reflect his impact on the program. The Scots are 2-0 thus far with a pair of overwhelming victories against Portage Northern 48-12 and Windsor (Ontario) Holy Names 57-7.

Backus garnered a pair of Division 1 offers in The University of Toledo and Kent State University prior to his sophomore season. The expectation is that more will be coming if he can show he is healthy this year. He has a pair of lethal weapons in receiving positions in 4-year starter Lincoln Senti (Cornell) at tight end and three-year starter Aaron Collins at wide receiver. They also return a fair amount of experience on the line in two-way starters Thomas Hodgson and Kylen Spencer. Michael Paarlberg and Xavier Stewart are a pair of juniors who are also returning on the defensive line.

The Scots are coached by Whitney Bell, who was named the head coach in 2025 and returns for his second season. Bell had been the defensive coordinator for Caledonia for several seasons during their long playoff runs in multiple seasons. Bell was an All-American defensive lineman at Ferris State before a brief foray into professional football.

Rockford won against the Scots each of the last two seasons by identical scores of 34-14. The last Caledonia win came in 2022 in a thrilling overtime win against Rockford by the score of 14-13. The Scots went on to make their way to the MHSAA Division 1 finals before falling to Belleville 35-17. Rockford leads the all time series by the count of 11-2.

The Rams come into the game with a record of 1-1. The season began with a disappointing 39-12 loss to a powerful Saline squad on the road. But the Rams rebounded in a big way by thrashing traditional power Muskegon at home by the count of 42-6 last week.
