Rockford Area School District consists of three school buildings: an elementary school for grades kindergarten through four, a middle school for grades five through eight, and a high school serving grades nine through twelve. All of our schools are magnet schools. What is a Magnet School? A magnet school is a type of public school that has a particular curricular focus developed around a core set

of five principles according to the Magnet Schools of America organization. These five pillars include the following things:

• High-Quality Instructional Systems
• Family and Community Partnerships

Rockford Elementary Arts Magnet Schools (K-4) instruction integrates content and skills from the areas of the arts of dance, drama, music, and visual art with core subjects. Benefits of Arts Instruction:
• Students learn using a creative, hands-on approach
• Students are able to demonstrate understanding through the arts
• Increased critical and creative thinking skills
• The arts develop a well-rounded student

Rockford Middle School Center for Environmental Studies (5-8) instruction integrates science, technology, engineering, and math with an environmental emphasis. Benefits of STEM Instruction:
• Career aspirations begin in Middle School
• STEM training teaches problem-solving
• STEM education facilitates hands-on learning
• STEM Education facilitates innovation

Rockford High School IB School (9-12) infuses a core curriculum with a world focus
that can help young people understand their role as responsible world citizens. Benefits of IB Instruction:
• An IB Diploma can earn college credit and ALL students are given the opportunity to test for credit
• IB Diploma graduates have a higher college and university acceptance rate and higher college completion rate
• The rigor of IB closely models the demands of a student’s first year in college
• IB students learn by doing, connecting the classroom to the larger world

This summer 2nd-6th graders participated in the Summer Theater Arts Camp production of High School Musical Jr! The kids learned valuable skills such as acting, singing, dancing, and art. They put on the show after only a week of rehearsal for the Rockford Community. The show was a huge success with a full house! Stay tuned for our next camp!

Today we are featuring our Galaxy Kids School-Age Child Care Coordinator and Head Varsity Baseball Coach, Cody Hallahan! 👋

About Cody 🚀 "My wife and I have 3 boys that play football and hockey and we enjoy going on many adventures from camping trips, road trips, fishing, hunting, or just going out on our boat."
💚 What makes Rockford Area Schools unique?: "I would say the great community not only with all staff but with students and families as well. I feel RAS is just one big family and always there for each other. "

All of the training. None of the performance pressure. NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!

This fall, we’re getting back to the basics and building from there. Fall Dance gives dancers dedicated time to work on technique, learn new skills, explore different styles, and prepare for everything winter dance team brings. Students of all skill-sets welcome and encouraged!

No worrying about cleaning a routine or getting ready for a competition. Just time to learn, grow, and get BETTER. 🚀
