Correction wasn’t something we dreaded.
It was something we understood would happen.
Adults didn’t tiptoe around us.
They spoke clearly.
They stepped in quickly.
And they meant every word.
Being corrected didn’t mean we weren’t loved.
It meant someone cared enough to guide us.
To stop small things from becoming bigger problems.
To straighten what was starting to lean the wrong way.
Nobody focused on protecting our pride.
They focused on the person we were growing into.
So when we crossed a boundary,
the boundary didn’t move.
We adjusted.
We listened.
We learned.
That is how character was built.
Not through endless praise,
but through clear expectations.
Not through constant comfort,
but through loving correction.
Looking back, it didn’t break us.
It strengthened us.
We didn’t grow up offended by everything.
We grew up ready for a world that wasn’t going to soften itself for us.
And because of that,
we learned to stand.
We learned to handle hard truths.
We learned to endure.
