Some of the snaps from Rockford WWII Days

Thank you to the Fagan family, museum staff and volunteers for hosting us with a level of hospitality beyond compare.
Our first fly in for the Victory At Sea event is one we will never forget!

Kam captured a picture from the event.

and I brought displays to honor our Grandfathers in the Navy and Marines. We ended up displaying nearby where dog tags were being made and I had brought a shadow box with my Grandfather’s naval dog tags and other mementos from hist time in the service.
It was so rewarding to see kids look at the original set and then receive their very own tags.

I also featured naval sweetheart jewelry, naval family keepsakes, and talked about the many ways civilian women children did their part for victory.

Not pictured is the absolute chaos that came that morning, to the point I wasn’t sure if we would even display at all.

I have never been in a tornado, let alone camped in a small wall tent with a ton of original WWII artifacts during one (I’d bet 80MPH winds, 100x crazier than anything I’ve seen at over the years, with wet ground from daily rain for the past month) The dress I’m wearing in the photo was found in the pouring rain the middle of the flight line between airplane hangers that morning (I had left it out to hang and remove wrinkles) - the blessing/miracle in all of this is NONE of our precious family items got damaged and not a single piece of glass broke. (RIP to our tables, shelving, cot, and the many repairs we still need to do)

I can’t say thank you enough to the Fagan family, and Aaron Fagan for literally showing up at 4 am and helping us haul our entire kit to a Quonset hut and making sure everything got dry. Even getting us a place to stay so we wouldn’t be driving 6 hours back on Saturday night due to not having a bed to sleep in.

Keep Calm and Carry On - this statement is so true in times of disaster like what happened. Not only did the show carry on (delayed start thank goodness), I believe over 7000 public attended and with extremely pleasant and engaging conversations. Plus constant action on the flight line with some incredible rare warbirds being flown.

"When her fiancƩ told her not to join the war effort, she broke off the engagement and joined anyway." Nancy Miller Stratford is 106 and the last surviving member of a remarkable group of female pilots who joined Britain's Air Transport Auxiliary (flying Spitfires) to help the war effort during WWII.

"I just wanted to fly."

You are not forgotten, Nancy. Cheers.

Shout out to the husband I don’t deserve who’s going to be 29 tomorrow! I’ve been the sickest I’ve ever been probably in my life the past 5 days and he’s been doing all he can to take care of me. I love you 😘
