Does your child ever get to interact with students in other grades, outside of maybe lunch or recess?
At Spectrum, one of the ways we make this possible is through our "Reading Buddies" program. Once every week, our older students visit our younger students and read to them. Not once a year, once a week!
Our students in Preschool and Early Elementary have their perception and experience of reading enriched by watching how the "big kids" do it AND have fun with it! Hearing older students say certain words, noticing their pace of reading, etc, can have an immediate impact on their own reading and comprehension in a positive way.
Our students in Intermediate Elementary and Upper School get the chance to lead and model for younger students academically, and even social-emotionally. This can give confident students a platform to shine, while also helping shy students come out of their shell a bit. It's something all students, no matter the level, look forward to every week!
Reading Buddies: because our amazing teachers....aren't the ONLY amazing teachers. πππ

Spectrum Progressive School of Rockford - Rockford, call 815.877.1600 We don't teach for the test. We teach to learn.
We teach about understanding the concepts behind the facts. At Spectrum, asking, "How did you get the answer?" is just as important as the answer itself.

What a wonderful event Breakfast with Santa & Mrs. Claus was this past weekend! Thank you Napleton Subaru - Rockford for letting our community be apart of this event to support Remedies Renewing Lives this holiday season. We look forward to next year! ππ π€Άπ₯ππ€β€οΈ
Back in September, our before-and-after school program, Compass, ran a Cereal Drive for the Rock River Valley Pantry. We recently heard back from the RRVP, saying we had donated 81 pounds of food for families in need! Our Spectrum families are amazing!
Our students and staff thought of a problem, created a path to help address the problem, and now we get to reflect on, tangibly, how much our community was able to donate and how that translates to the real world.
If you notice below our Facebook logo, it states:
Thinking, Creating, Reflecting: Impacting the Future.
It's not just a tagline π€·ββοΈ. Thank you to EVERYONE who donated, and thank you to the Rock River Valley Pantry for allowing us this opportunity! Let's run it back next year π―π―π₯£π₯£π«Άπ«Ά

Last Thursday night, at the What Rocks Community Choice Awards Gala, we came up just short for Best Preschool & Best Private School in the Rockford area. However, we as a staff and community are extremely proud for finishing in the Top 3 in both of those categories, out of dozens and dozens of schools in the area up for selection. Today and every day, thank you for choosing Spectrum School for your child's educational journey. β€οΈπππ

As a Top 3 Finalist for the What Rocks Community Choice Awards in TWO categories (Best Preschool AND Best School - Private), we're officially one month away from finding out where in the Top 3 we'll land! (November 7th) π€π€π€πππ
At Spectrum, we believe that student interests and curiosities should drive their passion to learn. We believe that small class sizes help your student get the attention and personal feedback they need. We believe that a vast arts integration (art/music/drama/dance) in addition to academics helps develop a more well-rounded individual going forward. We believe that a school, where your student is present 7 hours a day, needs to be a safe space (no fighting whatsoever), so the open communication, empathy, and genuine care demonstrated by staff and students on a daily basis ensures just that. We believe having nature (our playground & beautiful prairie surroundings) alongside their educational journey is a gift that not every student has access to.
Those are just a few reasons to consider Spectrum School as your young student's learning community. Schedule a tour today!
Our weaving fence allows children of all ages to experience the weaving technique in many ways. You'll see the "in-and-out" style, creating a pattern (mathematical concept thinking) or the freestyle (creative thinking). Both ways work on motor skills, problem solving, and creativity.
The weaving fence creation was started at the Spectrum art activities area during the UU Free Pantry mural event a few weekends back. Preschool, Early Elementary, and some adults participated in its inception! π§£π§£π§£πππ
