Students recreation is more than just playing a game. Through sorts, the arts, and other extended learning opportunities, kids gain confidence, develop discipline, grow their leadership, and make connections.
At Alignment Rockford, we believe young people thrive when the community shows up around them with real opportunities, strong relationships, and pathways to grow.
Let’s continue to create spaces where students can discover their strengths, find their team, and chase their dreams.
Support student opportunity. Support youth leadership. Support a stronger Rockford.

Walls for Strength and Resilience— Strong School Murals are Anchors for Healing and Belonging in AR Strong Schools
Across five Rockford Public School District 205 schools, original murals are being installed as part of the Strong Schools initiative — a healing-centered student support framework implemented at schools working to ensure every student feels Seen and Heard, Pushed to Grow, and Ready to Succeed. Murals will be installed in Constance Lane Elementary, McIntosh Elementary, Lewis Lemon Elementary, Lincoln Middle School, and RESA Middle School.
These works of art are designed to function as anchors: stable, beautiful, communal points of pride that students and families encounter every day.
Place-based healing — the idea that the physical environment of a school can hold and reinforce a culture of belonging — is central to the Strong Schools model. When a child sees their story reflected on the walls of their school, it sends a message that goes deeper than any policy or program: you belong here.
The Strong Schools murals are designed and installed by Eddaviel Montero, an internationally recognized visual artist and muralist. As a part of the project, he holds a discovery conversation with students from the school. The input from these conversations shape the concepts and themes so that each mural exemplifies not only the Strong Schools ideas of community and possibility, but the identity of the school community.
The murals are funded by Healing Illinois, an initiative of the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS), managed in partnership with the Field Foundation.

We ❤️ our Strong Schools.
What does it mean to grow up strong? That is the question our Strong Schools teams asked. Partners from across the community alongside RPS 205 imagined school as a place of growth, opportunity, learning, and healing.
One of our latest Strong Schools projects elevates the idea that we all deserve to have beauty in the environments where we work, play and learn. The Healing Illinois Strong Schools murals, led by Eddaviel reflect school community pride and identity.
Let’s find ways every day to make sure that the children of our community grow up strong. ☀️❤️🙌

You’re invited to celebrate something special.
Tomorrow — Thursday, April 23 at 5 PM — join us at Constance Lane Elementary for the dedication of our first Strong Schools mural, created by artist Eddaviel Montero with the help of Lucia Klonicki.
This mural, along with the other four across Rockford Schools, was shaped by the students input, giving a permanent reminder on the walls of their school: you belong here.
The mural is part of a growing partnership between Alignment Rockford and Rockford Public Schools, funded by Healing Illinois through the Illinois Department of Human Services and the Field Foundation.
The dedication will immediate precede Constance Lane’s International Day Festivities. Come for the dedication and stay for the food, fun and festivities!💜
