We lost a hen yesterday due to an airway obstruction, so it became an impromptu lesson in anatomy for the kids as I prepared her for dinner. This is undoubtedly one of the most incredible things to find, when opening up a hen in laying season: a fully formed egg waiting to be laid, and several yolks of various developmental sizes around the o***y. When you do homeschool, you learn real life.

HELIUM IN ZIRCONS - MORE EVIDENCE OF A YOUNG EARTH

One of the strongest scientific pieces of evidence for a young earth comes from zircon crystals buried deep within granite rock. These tiny minerals contain uranium, which naturally decays into lead over time. During this process, helium gas is released as a byproduct. Helium, however, is a very small and lightweight atom that escapes from rock quickly. It doesn’t stay trapped for millions of years—yet zircons from deep in the Earth are still loaded with helium.

Scientists have carefully measured the rate at which helium leaks out of zircons. The results are shocking for those who believe in billions of years. If these rocks were really 1.5 billion years old, almost all the helium should have escaped long ago. Instead, the amount of helium still inside matches an age of only about 6,000 years, a timeframe that fits perfectly with the biblical record of Earth’s history.

This discovery undermines one of the main pillars of evolutionary geology—radiometric dating. While standard methods rely on assumptions about the past that can not be tested, helium diffusion is a direct, observable measurement. The evidence from zircons points clearly to a much younger Earth than the textbooks claim, providing powerful confirmation of the Genesis account of creation.

The giraffe has a strong heart to pump blood all the way up to its head and strong arteries to withstand the high blood pressure needed to carry the blood to its head. It also has a so called “wonder net,” which is a network of blood vessels that helps to stabilize the blood pressure in the giraffe’s head even when it raises and lowers its head.

Modern science continues to uncover engineering wonders that enable the giraffe to keep blood flowing evenly to its brain and keep blood from pooling in its legs. Researchers have discovered that giraffes, unlike human beings, have a valve in the jugular vein. But these valves work in the wrong direction to help blood stay in the head. Instead, they close when a giraffe lowers its head, preventing used blood from backing up into the brain.

And how does a giraffe, which stays on its feet all day, keep blood from pooling in its legs? Scientists have found that the skin on a giraffe’s legs is very tight fitting. When a giraffe walks, its muscle movement within that tight skin actually helps pump used blood out of the legs.

If life owed its existence to chance and genetic mistakes, we wouldn’t have any giraffes today. But what a wonder of God’s design these stately creatures are!
