Channel View gives thanks to all of the mothers who have entrusted us with educating their beloved children. On this day, May 12th, in particular, our community remembers a very special alumnus, Justin Zemser, and his mother, Susan Zemser. It was on May 12, 2015 that Justin Zemser departed. He was a Channel View valedictorian, student body president, football player, US Naval Academy Midshipman. He also proudly embodied the 13 Words to Live By. Justin continues to inspire all those who knew him, from Channel View staff, to friends and family. On this Mother's Day, which corresponds with the anniversary of his passing, we send our love to Justin's mother, Susan, as we forever grateful to her for creating and shaping the life and example of her son who continues to inspire all who knew him. Thank you, Susan, and Happy Mother's Day!

Today we remember a very special Channel View graduate and a very special human being, Midshipman Justin Zemser. We remember his life, character, personality, actions, accomplishments, and legacy. As a graduate of Channel View School for Research, by many accounts, Justin was among the most accomplished student in the school's history. He excelled in everything. He was a straight A student, captain of sports teams, president of the student body and multiple clubs, a lifeguard, and a volunteer of several local Rockaway clubs. He earned a perfect score on the SAT, was accepted into multiple Ivy League colleges, and ultimately opted to attend the US Naval Academy because of his desire to serve others. Most of all, though, Justin excelled in being a good human being. He embodied Channel View's 13 Words to Live By. Justin led by example, not by lecturing others. He was a friend to all he met. Through reflecting his example, and our continued remembrance and honoring of him, those of us who knew Justin continue to learn from him and be inspired by the legacy he left behind. We thank Justin parents and family, his teachers, his coaches, his friends, and the entire Rockaway, Channel View, and USNA family for helping shape Justin's character. May his memory continue to always be an inspiration to us.

Channel View Alumni are making it happen! We have doctors, nurses, lawyers, accountants, politicians, professors with PhDs, council members, community organizers and activists, religious clergy, jewelry designers, professional artists, authors, fashion designers, an NFL player, scientists, military officers, teachers, managers, investors, professional trainers, chefs, coders & other IT workers, highly skilled trades workers such as electricians, ironworkers, and plumbers...the list goes on and on. But most of all, we got good people! Good citizens, good family members, good community members, and good friends. We are fulfilling our school's main mission-- to create lifelong learners of good character who are democratically involved in their community. Go Channel!
