Stay safe!

🚲 Good news! We have more bike helmets! 🪖

Thanks to another generous donation, we've received another supply of bike helmets to give away to kids in our community!

The last time we did this, the response was incredible—and we unfortunately ran out, leaving some families empty-handed. If you were one of those families, or if you're just seeing this opportunity for the first time, we'd love to help!

Stop by the Reedsburg Ambulance station during our normal business hours to pick up a helmet. Helmets are available while supplies last and are sized to help ensure the best fit.

SOAC is thankful for the great support we receive from our community and local businesses and organizations. This support allows us to provide field trip programs during the school year and camping adventures in the summer.

SOAC is able to do what we do because of the amazing generosity of our community. Tonight SOAC, along with many other community organizations, was the grateful recipient of a donation from the Reedsburg United Fund. Donations like these are used to replace or buy new equipment- like our new digital microscopes used for pond studies - and for scholarships that help youths go on our summer camping trips, and other operational needs throughout the year. Bike Shop is closed for kids for this school year. I will continue it during the summer in order to keep the supply of bicycles flowing for the next school year.
Each 5th grade class was scheduled for a 4 week period. If they did not finish a bicycle, and wanted to, they could continue as long as it was Ok with their parents. It was also open to older kids and for parochial school students.
Here are this years statistics 49 total students participated 30 boys and 19 Girls
26 bikes were fixed and went home, 12 more bikes were fixed and were donated by the students.
Orphan Grain train picked up 168 bikes from us this school year ( I also fixed up bikes and donated them) In the time that we have been partnering with Orphan Grain train we have donated 1148. These go to poor locations in the US as well as around the world such as Ukraine, moldova, Latvia, Ghana, loredo, El Paso Chihuahua, Mexico and others.
Social services in the area also contact me for bicycles for their clients--about 5 this year
Needy individuals in town also contact me for bikes--about 5
We made one trip to Milwaukee to the Refugee resettlement lprogram with a trailer of about 35 bicycles.
Don Fish, Wayne Tourdot, Mark Hayes and when she had time Liv Sullivan a present senior who has been in the program for years, would help out.
We met on Mondays after school from about 3:15- 4:45 with a total of 210 hrs of working on bikes by all the participants.
I believe this is an important program for the district to be making available. Thank you for allowing this to happen for our students, the community and the greater world community.

I do hope to be able to provide this again next school year.

SOAC leaders checked out a new trail this morning. Heard loons and saw eagles! Construction work at Mirror Lake SP has us adjusting for our spring field trips, but plans are in place for our adventures. 🛶 🥾
