This week, Superintendent Dr. Williams had the opportunity to deliver her annual State of the Schools address at a joint meeting of the Rock Island Rotary and Rock Island Kiwanis Club.

This annual event highlights the strong, ongoing partnership between RIMSD41 and these two dedicated service organizations. We are grateful to both organizations for their continued support of our scholars, schools, and community.

The Reading Revolution continued this week as Mrs. Castro's second-grade class welcomed a special Mystery Reader: Kory Kuffler, sports broadcaster for WQAD News 8!

Mr. Kuffler read Miss Nelson Has a Field Day by James Marshall – and, by pure coincidence, it happened to be a book he used to read with his son. He also shared a little about his career before bringing the story to life for our scholars.

Thank you, Mr. Kuffler, for taking time out of your day to inspire a love of reading and supporting the Reading Revolution. Eugene Field loved having you as their Mystery Reader! 💙💚

RIMSD41 proudly congratulates Superintendent Dr. Sharon Williams on being honored with the Outstanding Leadership Award by the Illinois State Black Chamber of Commerce.

This recognition celebrates Dr. Williams’ leadership, commitment, and continued dedication to creating opportunities, strengthening partnerships, and serving scholars, families, staff, and the Rock Island community.

RIMSD41 is excited to continue Facilities Management meetings throughout the 2026–2027 school year! Join us to learn about current and future projects, tour our schools, share your ideas, connect with facilities partners, and explore solutions for the future of our schools.

Please join us in welcoming Mr. Timothy Wernentin to his new role as Principal of Thurgood Marshall Learning Center (TMLC)!

Mr. Wernentin brings extensive leadership experience to TMLC. He previously served as Principal of Rock Island High School and spent nine years as Principal of Sherrard High School. Prior to that, he served 11 years as a building principal.

We’re excited to have Mr. Wernentin back with RIMSD41 and look forward to the leadership and experience he brings to the TMLC community.

We are proud to celebrate Mr. Jadiem Wilson, Principal of Ridgewood Elementary; Mr. Gary Rowe, former RIMSD41 Board Member and Executive Director of the Rock Island Community Foundation and Rauch Family Foundations; and Ms. Pamela Seales, founder of Pam’s Place, who were recognized tonight by the Board of Education as Rock Island Citizens of the Year!

Mr. Wilson was honored in the Education category, Mr. Rowe in the Individual category, and Ms. Seales in the Organization, Church or Non-Profit category.

Congratulations to all of this year’s Rock Island Citizens of the Year! We are grateful for the leadership, service, and dedication you bring to our community.

Happy Labor Day!

RIMSD41 is proud to celebrate the hard work, dedication, and community pride that make our district special! Thank you to our scholars, families, staff, and leaders who proudly represented RIMSD41 at the 42nd Annual Rock Island Labor Day Parade this morning!

Yesterday, Frances Willard Elementary School - We are leaders and learners., Rock Island Academy - Rock Island, IL, and Edison Junior High School joined The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center’s Soul of the City 2026 Parade, while Thomas Jefferson Elementary & Ridgewood Elementary participated in the Milan Fall Harvest Parade!

Our Family and Community Engagement Team was also there, connecting with families and providing helpful resources and information. Several of our staff members also joined local organizations they’re involved in.

We’re so grateful to be part of a community that comes together to celebrate, connect, and support one another!

Reminder: There is no school tomorrow, Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day. Several of our schools and clubs will be joining the Rock Island Labor Day Parade. We hope to see you there!

Dear RIMSD41 Families,

The safety and well-being of our student-athletes is our top priority. Due to the extreme temperatures forecasted for Friday, September 4, the freshman football game against Geneseo has been rescheduled.

Updated schedule:

🏈Varsity: Friday, September 4 at 7:00 PM at Home — Game will proceed as scheduled
🏈Freshman: Monday, September 7 at 11:00 AM at Geneseo
🏈JV: Monday, September 7 at 1:00 PM at Geneseo

To clarify, there will be no freshman game this Friday night. The freshman game has been moved to Monday at 11:00 AM, with the JV game following at 1:00 PM.

The varsity game will still take place this Friday at 7:00 PM at Rock Island!
