After a couple of years, our Amazon Milk Frogs finally decided to breed! These little ones came out of the water just a couple of weeks ago, with a bunch of tadpoles still developing.
Amazon Milk Frogs can be difficult to breed, and getting tadpoles through metamorphosis is only part of the challenge. The babies are still very sensitive and fragile for their first few months, and losses can happen even when everything seems to be going right. Unfortunately, some are sold while they're still in this especially vulnerable stage, and new owners may lose them shortly after bringing them home. That's actually what happened with the first group of Milk Frogs we bought.
I've lost quite a few tadpoles and a couple of babies already, and that's easily been the hardest part. It may mean this ends up being my first and only time raising Amazon Milk Frog babies.
But for now, I'm really proud of how far these tiny frogs have made it, and I'm excited to watch them grow and hopefully become the big, chunky Milk Frogs they're meant to be. 💚
