Our students - and we adults - enjoyed fun Winter Reading prizes and a chance to make free bead necklaces, bracelets, or key chains during all lunches today! It's so fun seeing the students engage with each other - and with us - and use their creativity during these collaborative events! We love our York County Library! Thursday, December 18 was a perfect day for students to come to the Media Center for a much needed Brain Break between studying for, and taking, their exams! Krista Borden Howell from York Public Library brought some great fabric bags that students could design and take with them - a great gift for someone on their list, or for themselves! We love collaborating with York County Library and Krista Borden Howell to provide really fun, special events for our students! Tuesday during all lunches, the kids could sign up to come and use their 3D pens to create a fun project for themselves to take home! It's always so fun watching these kids interact and use their creativity. Now I know what's on my wish list to have for our students in the Media Center! I was so lucky to be asked to be a chaperone on the Chinese Class Field Trip last week! It was fabulous interacting with these students, and experiencing all of the Chinese culture with them all! We started with a little shopping of international foods at Super G International Market, then we visited the True Chinese Buddha Temple and were educated about Buddhist religion and traditions by the Monk there. We ended the afternoon with a delicious Chinese lunch at Lee's Cafe in Ft. Mill! One of the many reasons I feel blessed to work in our schools - to see and experience with these teens the many different opportunities they are offered! As we celebrated Red Ribbon week at Northwestern High School - Trojans., I created and led a
"Ghost the Drugs, not your Goals" Escape Room Challenge for classes to sign up for and come to the Media Center to enjoy. The message was important for sure, and to see these kids really get into their escape "room" challenges, interacting and working together, was the true joy! Thanks to the teachers who were able to sign up and bring their classes, and thanks to Guidance for reaching out to see if I'd accept this challenge to create this entire Escape Room activity! It truly challenged my brain and creativity, and I loved doing it! If you look carefully, you might even see an admin or 2 who also accepted my challenge to come and try! Some inspiration for today!
At age 17, she was rejected from college.
At age 25, her mother died from disease.
At age 26, she moved to Portugal to teach English.

Her husband abused her. Despite this, her daughter was born.
