For the past several years, thousands of working South Carolina families have benefited from expanded access to Child Care Scholarships. These scholarships helped parents remain employed, provide stability for their families, and place their children in safe, nurturing early learning environments.
Effective December 1, 2025, South Carolina paused new applications for the Working Families/Strong Start category Of the Child Care Scholarship program except for certain protected categories.
For families already struggling with the rising cost of housing, groceries, transportation, and other necessities, the full cost of child care can make the difference between continuing to work and leaving the workforce.
We believe South Carolina can find a better way.
Child Care is not merely a personal family expense. Child Care Is workforce infrastructure. When parents cannot afford childcare, they may be unable to work. Employers lose dependable employees. Child care programs lose enrollment. Teachers lose hours and jobs. Most importantly, children may lose the consistency, relationships and early learning environments they need.
We are asking working parents across South Carolina to make their voices heard.
