Mrs. Gagalski’s Pre K students learned about the letter Bb today. They tasted broccoli as part of their lesson and discovered they like it, especially with ranch dip. One student said he was going home to get his Mom to go buy some because it tasted very good!

Our 5th graders are learning all about matter and its different states. Today they loved learning with a cool experiment!

Students explored what happens when Pop Rocks—candy containing trapped gas—are mixed with water and soda. It was a fun, hands-on way to observe matter and think about what happens when different substances interact.

Learning science is always more fun when we can see it happen right before our eyes! Kudos to Mrs. Davis for making learning exciting!

Shout out to the RHVFC members who came to teach our students about fire safety and how they handle emergencies today. Our students loved getting up into the firetruck and ambulance! They learned a lot about the equipment firefighters and EMS clinicians tools use as well as what to do in an emergency.

A great follow up activity to do with your child is to make a family fire escape plan. Designate a spot close to your home for family members to meet in the event of a fire.

RHVFC also recommends teaching children how to call 911. Help them memorize their address so they can call for help if needed.

Our 5th graders had a blast Wednesday at Tuckahoe State Park! Educators from the Sultana Education Foundation led them on a paddle a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay so they could learn how our local waterways connect to the Chesapeake Bay, Atlantic Ocean, and the broader hydrosphere.

Students participated in map analysis of the Bay and our location within it. They learned about water chemistry and used secchi disks to analyze how water clarity changes through various waters of the Bay. They explored local creature through seining.

And…they had so much fun!
