Juneteenth, also known as “Juneteenth Independence Day”, “Freedom Day”, or “Emancipation Day” is observed annually on June 19 to celebrate African American emancipation and freedom. This year, the annual celebration of freedom comes as the nation continues to address and overcome a long history of systemic racism.⠀

As protest continue across the country, Chi Upsilon Sigma National Latin Sorority, Inc. would like to reaffirm our support as a national organization against the oppression that people of color experience on a daily basis.
As a predominantly women of color organization that is composed of so many talented, educated and empowered women who identify as Afro-Latinx, Black, and/or African American, we stand in solidarity and support with our community.
It is with encouragement and unity that we ask you, our sisters, to stand strong in your beliefs and convictions. We ask that you recognize, now more than ever, where you come from, where you are going and perhaps the most important: who you are and the power you hold. We have the power to create the change we want to see. Do not allow oppression, fear or anger keep you from taking a stand. Individually we make the commitment; together we can make the difference.

Pride Month is celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. The Stonewall Uprising was a catalyst for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. The uprising was led primarily by trans women of color against police brutality. We admire the brave individuals who fought in this monumental event and encourage you to continue to resist and to stand against injustice. ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽 🏳️🌈🌺❤️

Alcohol Awareness Month is a public health program that was started in 1987 as a way of increasing outreach and education regarding the dangers of alcoholism and issues related to alcohol. This national movement is to draw more attention to the causes and effects of alcoholism as well as how to help families and communities deal with drinking problems. We can all take steps to help prevent alcohol misuse and abuse especially during these unfortunate events. Stay Safe Everyone.
