Please join the RIT Interior Design program for hyperspace 2026 this Friday, January 16th from 5:00-7:30pm in RIT's The SHED Room 4300. This year, teams of freshmen-seniors were tasked with designing an architectural intervention within the remaining structure of St. Joseph’s Church in Rochester, New York., designated in the National Register of Historic Places.
Proposals reconceptualize the remaining structural shell of the church and site to make it accessible throughout the year. Use scenarios demonstrate the viability to generate sustainable revenue while the design interventions aim to communicate the history of the church as an institution that played a pivotal role in the development of Rochester.
The students will communicate their design proposals in poster and quickfire presentations for the audience. A panel of judges will assess the proposals' adaptive reuse, public engagement, and heritage interpretation looking for creative interventions that not only preserve but extend the cultural significance of the site.
This event is free and open to the public.
