We specialize in exploring unexpected connections between music, theater, dance, and other academic disciplines—like animating a scene that accompanies an orchestral performance, or designing and building moving set pieces for a play. Our students put what they learn in the classroom, what they feel inside, and what they are passionate about to use in creative and unique ways while having fun working alongside others as enthusiastic as they are. So whether you’re a cellist here to study engineering, or a theater club pro majoring in museum studies, RIT’s performing arts have something to offer.

Today, we are proud to share the new–and first-ever–mission statement for the RIT School of Performing Arts:

Performance for Everyone. The School of Performing Arts is a shared creative home where we think critically, practice collaboratively, and explore inquisitively to spark growth, meaning, and community. Designed for any major, we are a place where engineers take the stage, technicians tackle the humanities, and musicians learn to code, opening new ways to understand the world. Through a performing arts philosophy, we empower students of all backgrounds to shape their lives and the imaginative, bold futures they will build.

Along with this unveiling, we’re excited to release the first video in a year-long series that captures responses from students, staff, and faculty across dance, music, and theatre about why the performing arts at RIT are truly amazing.

Based on the classic ghost story, The Turn of the Screw is a tale of a woman who is either haunted, or going mad, as she takes care of two children in a secluded country manor.

The Turn of the Screw by Jeffrey Hatcher, adapted from the story by Henry James, and Directed by Dr. Kelley Holley.

Ready to get on (or off) your feet? Join educator, choreographer, and creative Jada Chanell at SHED Dance Studio for a deep dive into Litefeet!

Born in Harlem in the early 2000s, Litefeet (or "getting lite") is a high-energy street dance style known for explosive footwork and weightless moves that make dancers look like they’re floating.
