This fall, Newbrough Piano Academy will now offer Jazz Ensembles, Jazz Piano Lessons, and Bass Lessons, led by our newest faculty member, Thomas Johnston!

Thomas is a bassist, pianist, composer, and music director originally from Sydney, Australia, now based right here in Rochester while pursuing his Master's in Jazz Performance at the Eastman School of Music. He's performed at venues from Ornithology in NYC to Chris's Jazz Cafe in Philadelphia, leads his own modern jazz group (the TJ Trio), and has appeared on more than 20 recording projects — many of them state and national award winners.

He's also a gifted teacher. As combo director for the Marysville Show Choir program in Ohio, his high school band earned 12 Best Combo awards and a #7 national ranking. With over 200 musical theater productions to his credit as performer and music director, Thomas brings a rare depth of experience across jazz, classical, and theater.

Most of all, Thomas is passionate about creating collaborative spaces where young musicians grow both technically and creatively — a perfect fit for our mission!

🎹 What a week it was for Rami's Rhapsody International Piano Camp for Adults Op. 46! 🎹

Our students spent the week learning from concert pianist Rami Bar-Niv, soaking up technique, artistry, and inspiration straight from a true master of the instrument. From breakthroughs at the keyboard to newfound confidence on stage, it was a week our students won't forget.

A huge thank you to Rami for sharing his gift with our Newbrough family!

And the good news doesn't stop there... 🎉 Rami will be back this October for a series of special masterclasses! Stay tuned for details on how your student can work directly with him again.

Day 5 and all week, our campers are putting the finishing touches on their recital pieces. Through careful polishing, thoughtful musical expression, and growing confidence, they are transforming weeks of hard work into performances they can be proud of.

We couldn't be more excited to watch each student take the stage and share their music with family, friends, and our community. It's a celebration of dedication, growth, and the joy of making music together.

One of the most meaningful parts of Rami's Rhapsody Piano Camp is the opportunity for our students to study with internationally acclaimed concert pianist Rami Bar-Niv.

Throughout the week, campers participated in engaging masterclasses where they refined their technique, explored musical expression, gained confidence, and received personalized guidance from a world-renowned artist. Every lesson challenged them to think more deeply about the music they play and inspired them to reach new artistic heights.

Watching our students grow through these experiences has been truly rewarding. Their dedication, curiosity, and enthusiasm have made this camp unforgettable.

Thank you, Rami Bar-Niv, for sharing your extraordinary musicianship, wisdom, and passion with our students. Your mentorship has left a lasting impression on each young pianist.
