DeafTEC serves as a national resource for high schools and community colleges that educate deaf and hard-of-hearing students in STEM-related programs and for employers hiring deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. DeafTEC™: Technical Education Center for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students is a NSF Advanced Technological Education Resource Center (DUE #1104229, #151756, and 1902474). DeafTEC’s goal is to increase the number of deaf and hard-of-hearing (deaf/hh) individuals in highly skilled technician jobs where they continue to be underrepresented and underutilized. DeafTEC is administered by faculty at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, one of the nine colleges of the Rochester Institute of Technology, and overseen by a National Visiting Committee made up of professionals in academia and industry.

During this webinar, Mike Sauter Alternate Media Specialist at Saddleback College will introduce you to PlayLab, a platform for creating custom AI chatbots that assist with tasks such as course navigation, syllabus access, and study support. The session will include demonstrations of chatbot uses and an overview of how to design prompts and workflows in PlayLab. While AI chatbots may not be a one-size-fits-all solution, they offer potential benefits for enhancing student engagement and access to information. Attendees will also learn about upcoming PlayLab workshops for those interested in further exploring chatbot development.
