Something exciting has been growing behind the scenes... 🌱💜

Beginning September 1, Spectrum Creative Arts' Schools Division will become Lumera Learning: a new organization dedicated exclusively to supporting schools through Music Therapy, professional development, and educational consulting.

Over the past 13 years, Spectrum Creative Arts has had the privilege of growing not only our clinic and community programs, but also a school-based Music Therapy team that now partners with school districts throughout the Greater Rochester region. As that work has continued to grow, we're excited for this next chapter and the opportunities it creates to further strengthen school-based services throughout our region.

While Lumera Learning was born from Spectrum Creative Arts, it will move forward as its own independent organization with its own mission, leadership, and focus. As separate organizations, our relationship remains rooted in mutual respect, and we'll continue supporting one another as we strengthen the communities we both serve.

For our school partners, here's what remains the same:
💜 The same dedicated therapists
💜 The same trusted school district partnerships
💜 The same commitment to neuroaffirming, strengths-based care
💜 The same passion for helping students thrive

As we begin this next chapter...
✨ Spectrum Creative Arts will continue providing the inclusive music, art, dance, and theatre programs that have always been at the heart of our clinic and community, led by Megan Resig and Wade Richards.
✨ Lumera Learning will focus exclusively on partnering with schools through Music Therapy, professional development, and educational consulting, led by Noa Ferguson.

We're incredibly proud of everything this team has built over the past 13 years, and we're excited to watch both organizations continue to grow, innovate, and make an even greater impact throughout our community.

As Lumera Learning begins this exciting new chapter on September 1, we'd love for you to follow along! Connect with them on Instagram at and on Facebook at . 🌱💜

Happy 3-year work anniversary to Ally! 🎶

Ally is a Music Therapist on our Schools Team working with preschool and school-aged students in school districts throughout the Greater Rochester area. 👋

When Ally’s not co-treating with Speech Therapy to support communication goals, you can find her selling her crocheted 🧶 pieces at local craft fairs or at ice skating practice! ⛸️

We're excited to share a project made possible through a 2025 Monroe County Arts Grant!

Spectrum Creative Arts was honored to receive funding through the grant, allowing us to equip our therapists and educators with iPads to use in sessions across our clinic and school-based programs.

These iPads have become valuable tools for the individuals we serve. Depending on a client's goals and needs, they may be used for songwriting, recording music, creating digital art, supporting communication through AAC apps, or providing new ways to participate and express themselves during sessions.

We're grateful to Monroe County for investing in organizations like Spectrum Creative Arts and helping us expand access to creative arts experiences throughout our community.

Thank you, Monroe County, for your support!

Thank you Monroe County! : Spectrum Creative Arts At Spectrum Creative Arts, we believe that every individual deserves access to creative tools that support communication, self-expression, and meaningful participation in the arts. Thanks to the generous support of the Monroe County Arts Grant Program, we were able to expand

What’s our school team been up to this week?

It’s been a quick turnaround between the regular school year and ESY (Extended School Year) this summer, so our therapists have swapped being glued to classrooms for being glued to spreadsheets and emails as we get schedules up and running for next week’s summer term kickoff!

This summer’s ESY term team is small but mighty. Get to know our fabulous Music Therapy crew!

🎵 Miss Ally: This is Ally’s 3rd ESY term with our team! Ally always has a coffee in hand and a Taylor Swift song floating around in her brain. She loves sharing silly moments with her students and learning new ways to support their learning processes and sensory systems through her sessions.

🎵 Miss Noa: This is Noa’s 13th ESY term with our team! Noa always carries a giant water bottle with her (that she leaves behind in a classroom almost daily) and a new song she’s writing in her brain. She loves bringing non-musical tools into her sessions—like spray bottles and parachutes—and learning new ways to use music to support functional communication and speech skills.

🎵 Miss Lauren: This is Lauren’s 4th ESY term with our team! Lauren always has a There Was an Old Lady book in hand and a new way to color-code her spreadsheets in her brain. She loves giggling with her students and learning new ways to incorporate interactive visuals into her sessions.

We’re letting our voices get a little rest this week so we can spring back into music mode when ESY kicks off next week! ☀️🎶

Please join us in wishing a bon voyage, or a wonderful journey, to the beloved Katie Vito!

After completing her Music Therapy internship with Spectrum, Katie joined our Schools Team as a School-Based Music Therapist in the Summer of 2025. She provided IEP and programmatic services throughout the Greater Rochester area, supporting students ages 5-22.

Katie is now bringing her creative superpowers 🎶 to the Syracuse, NY area as she begins a new adventure with the wonderful music therapists at Maestro Music Therapy.

We are so excited for Katie’s next professional adventure, and will be cheering her on here in the ROC! Happy trails, Katie! 💛

As another school year comes to a close, our School Team took some time to reflect before diving into Summer programming. 🤲

Today, we created Time Capsules for the 2025-2026 school year filled with moments that made us giggle, lessons we want to carry forward, notes to our future selves, and a single word that captured a challenge, triumph, or meaningful memory from the year. Therapists also selected colored beads to represent each of the students whose lives intersected with theirs this year to create a tangible reminder of the relationships at the center of our work.

Cheers to a year worth remembering! 🎓

What does a school-based music therapy role look like beyond the therapy room?

We asked our team a simple question: “How does this role fit into your life outside of work?”

Katie’s answer reflects things we care deeply about: building careers that support the whole person. Whether it’s time with family, pursuing creative passions, traveling, continuing education, or simply having space to recharge, our team members each bring their own perspective on how this work fits into a life well-lived.
