Reconnecting with our “why.” ✨

The Humanities in Medicine Interest Group recently hosted Vision Board Night: My “Why,” a relaxed and creative space for MCASOM students to reflect on the people, experiences, values, and goals that inspire them to pursue medicine.

Through photos, quotes, colors, collage, conversation, and a little creativity, students created personal vision boards to serve as reminders of what keeps them grounded and motivated throughout medical training!

The Student Life Wellness Committee hosts an ice cream station to celebrate the M1s' first midterm and the M2s' pulmonology final. Waffle cones, various ice cream flavors, and yummy toppings sweetened a huge accomplishments for MCASOM students.

Mayo Clinic Humanities in Medicine Book Club hosted a discussion for "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho. Students explored themes of destiny, ancient medicine (alchemy), nature, and Arabic culture over a themed spread including "Elixir of life" (prickly pear coconut water), "Philosopher's Stone" (rolled labneh), "Good Omens" (Green Hummus), "Bad Omens" (Hot Honey Feta Dip), and more. The goal was to help medical students overcome the fear of failure, process professional setbacks, explore culture through cuisine, and build resilience against burnout through discussing the novel's core themes of "finding your Personal Legend" to realign priorities, pursue specific passions, and listen to their intuition when the medical system feels overwhelming.

Feeling stressed? Or maybe just in need of a snack and some puppy love? 🐾

Mayo PAWS (Pet Away Worry & Stress) is here to help! Each month, PAWS offers Mayo Clinic learners a safe space to take a break, de-stress, enjoy snacks, and spend time with Caring Canine volunteers.

Attendees can also connect with mental health and wellness resources designed to support resilience throughout training.

Join us this Thursday, July 30, from noon–2 p.m. in the Venables Library on Siebens 10th floor.

During their pulmonology block, students at MCASOM AZ immersed themselves in an interactive curriculum that brought learning to life with simulated patients, close-knit case discussions, and hands-on practice equipment.

Through attempting bronchoscopies on mannequins and completing challenging VR simulations, many found the real-life intricacies of pulmonary interventions a challenge that left a lasting impression! 🫁

The newest class of students at the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine in Rochester, MN spent an afternoon volunteering at Channel One Food Bank!

They packed and stacked:

2,400 pounds of frozen chicken!
7,326 cans!
And 400 senior boxes for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program!

From Channel One: Your volunteering efforts helped us to get so much food prepared to provide for our friends, families, and neighbors. You also helped us get more spaces open on our shelves to take in more food so we can continue to tackle food insecurity in our community. You all did such a wonderful job and were such a great help!

MCASOM Rochester second-year students recently gathered at Soldiers' Field for a student-organized "Donut Dash," a relay-style event celebrating classmates’ birthdays. 🎉

Participants competed in teams, rotating through short runs paired with a lighthearted donut-eating challenge, while classmates came together to cheer one another on.

The event brought together much of the second-year class in a fun and supportive environment outside of the classroom! 🥳

(For those wondering, the blue team took the win! 🥇)
